Re: Dublin signwriters short film

Thank you Terry for sharing the film....awesome! I was in Dublin last month and really appreciated the pride in heritage there!
Also the abundant turn of the century hand gilded mirrors in the pubs were outstanding.

Hi Bruce
It seems the 'water closet' is getting more attention than usual these days!!!

Nice clean solution to your project. Nice job!

In nyc, pubs and restaurants normally letter'em up 'WC' which leads to alot of confusion in my opinion!
Your silhouttes help to clear that up alot. Real cool.

I thought you guys would get a kick out of this..........I was in Toronto Canada this past week gilding a window. I went into an old local coffee shop and saw this really cool, old glass sign on the restroom door! The owners said they picked it up in a antique shop a while back. I guess it just show...

Re: Taking sign brushes on a plane.

Hi Rick Best to be safe! I travel alot for work and normally ship my materials to the destination ahead of me. On occasion, I have taken new brushes for a plane ride though with no problem! Again they were brand new, & not oiled up. If they're oiled up they have to go 'ground' use Fed-ex or ups....

Re: Newest glass sign

I finally got that glass to chip! I ended up using a diamond bit in a dremmel. I distressed the gilding and the paint. I did spend a little too much time wrestling with this one! But sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do! Happy to say the mirror was installed on this past Thursday in manhattan. The...

Re: Newest glass sign

The night before they opened, one of my clients emailed me over this night time photo of a job I did not too long ago in upper midtown manhattan (48th & Lexington)
This job was done in a similar manner as the 'G' job with the exception of there is a burnished outline (no black).

Re: Newest glass sign

Hey guys sorry about the delay in responding. Thanks for the interest. This was a very simple straight forward job. A lot simpler than it looks. Mr Tyler, I used 23k on the whole job, maybe I'll try some lemon next time around! Vance, First I quick sized the outline of the 'G', surface gilded it the...

Re: What about pricing.........?

Great topic Vance! Just to cut to the quick.....for on site glass gilding I charge by the square foot, plus travel(gas tolls parking) not by the hour. I charge between $250 and $300 per sq ft. I normally complete most of my smaller jobs in one day.( Similar to the job I posted the other day ) For mi...
