Re: International Letterheads Meet UK - September 2014

Great news Kate. It been a long time since we were all together for a proper meet, I can't wait. Hopefully we will see a lot of new faces. There seems to be lots of young aspiring sign writers popping up lately and there will be no better place to learn about the trade and make great mates for life....

Re: Tips for visiting London?

Hi Eric, You should have a great time in London, There is a real ale renassiance going on at present. I just got back from a pub crawl late last night with fellow letterhead Stewart Mclaren and we visited some of these glass palaces (and I'm feeling a little fragile). Try some of the following: The ...

Re: Sandblasted Letter Gilding

Just a quick question whilst we are on the subject, but when deep blasitng what grade media are you lads using. I find that it takes me a long time to get any depth in my blasting. I think I'm using 180/220 grit in a Guyson glass cabinet and the compressor has plenty of CFM although it might not all...

Re: Got my Sign work on TV

Nice one Terry, It's great to see it on there. I've been watching the series since you gave me the heads up about your involvement. Waynes so right when he says about the money spent on TV period drama's attention to detail, then they put up a TNR vinyl thing on a white background with no boarder, f...

Re: HYDROFLUORIC ACID for Mica Acid Etch

Bruce, I saw your remarks about woodgrain and thought this may be of interest. Last week I was acid etching and silvering some pub mirrors and had a thought along these lines. I brunswick blacked some spare glass and ran a wood graining tool through the wet black. This was my first and only attempt ...

Re: Customer video

Great to see you here on the site buddy and a fantastic film to watch. I had a big happy grin on my face throughout watching you work. How many trades are there where after 15 plus years at it and being around it I still get a buzz and a smile watching another craftsman practicing it! I look forward...

Re: Glass signs of Porto

Hi Doug, Thanks for the kind remarks, it means something indeed coming from you. I'm sorry to have missed you too, but I hope to see you at your workshop in August. I'll post some pictures soon, I'll start with the 3000 hour restoration project of a 1902 gypsy caravan that I wanted to show you, hope...

Re: Glass signs of Porto

Hi Bruce,

The panel did have the remenants of a pictorial of Jesus on it, you could just see parts of it clinging on and some ghosting (or should that be holy ghosting) of other parts of the image. I may have another photo of that part if so I'll post it

Thanks
Ash

Glass signs of Porto

On the recomendation of fellow letterhead Alan Brindle, my family and I decided to visit Porto, Potugal to check out it's great shopfronts and prolific glass signage. Located along the Douro river estuary in northern Portugal, Porto is one of the oldest European centres, and registered as a World He...
