Re: Problems with glue chip
Thanks Erik. I knew how to glue chip the glass but I had never heard any issues with the sand blasting media being too coarse. I've had similar issues in the past with the chipping going outside of where it is supposed to. I think I have used 80 grit media. I was wondering how the coarseness of the ...

What happens if the media is too coarse? This is the first I've heard of grit being discussed.

Re: Film about the making of John Mayers Born and Raised artwork
Wow Dave, another awesome movie! Very entertaining and informative too. Both movies are enjoyable to watch. I understand many of the processes you were demonstrating but had just one question: What type of screenprinting ink did you use that would stand up to the high temperatures in the kiln? I wou...

Re: Framed
Here's the link to the framing I've used on the last 2 signs I've made. I've used the Burnt Sienna and Galactic Blue colors. They have other profiles but I have only used profile #117. http://www.framing4yourself.com/shop/products/nielsen-high-quality-metal-frames/ I bought some cheap mat to protect...

Re: The whitest of them all
Is that micro prizm flake? If so I would believe you would have to thin the mix pretty much and spray it on with an airbrush in thin layers.. or mix the flake with a some sort of clear, spray it on and add the white after.. but just guessing. Yep, it is the Micro-prizm. I could try that. I have an ...

Re: The whitest of them all
are you using water-clear glass such as Starfire??? If the glass is green-tint, i sometimes make the "white" paint a little bit pink/orange to counter the green cast. I'm using Starfire glass so I don't have to worry but it is good to know. I'll keep it in mind in case I use regular glass...

The whitest of them all
I want to put bright white background on a piece of reverse glass. I want the brightest whitest white I can find. I see One Shot has White 101-L and Polar White 130-L. Would anyone be so kinda as to take 30 seconds and tell me which is the whiter of the whites? Both suppliers here in Baltimore were ...

Re: Another Sign Movie
I just checked out the Billhead Font and it is similar but not quite as ornate. Both are very nice fonts though. I'm absolutely in no position to criticize the guy's techniques or brush strokes. Mine are way rough but then again this is just a hobby for me and not what pays my bills. As with all thi...

Re: Site Question
I've already tried the double click thing. Maybe it is my browser? I'll look into that. I never thought to enlarge the image in the browser. That may work as well. Thanks for the help! This is probably a silly question with a simple solution I'm overlooking - Can someone tell me if there is a way to...

Site Question
This is probably a silly question with a simple solution I'm overlooking - Can someone tell me if there is a way to view the images "full size"? I can't seem to find a way but often would like to see more of the details in the pictures being posted.

Re: Bob Dylan Does Hand LEttering
I much prefer Dylan's original too. The thing I like about Leandro's video is that he put forth effort into each of the cards. I think I read somewhere that Bob only drew 6 of the cards in the original video. Of course it's obvious that the original's focus wasn't on hand lettering or creative sign ...

Brush Trimming
I need to get finer lines than the 10/0 Princeton Select Scriptliner brushes I can find locally will make. I'm wary of buying a brush online since I can't see it\feel it first. I'm going to buy a few of them tomorrow and try to trim them down to make finer lines. Is there anything special I need to ...

Re: Transparent Glaze - How to question?
Mike, Thanks for that advice. I know even less about paints than I do about the rest of the stuff I've asked about. I'll file that away for future reference. I'm sure it will come in handy. The synvar varnish that I picked stated it was for oil and acrylic. I was looking at the Damar Varnish on the ...

Re: Transparent Glaze - How to question?
OK, so I went the route of using the transparent artist color and some varnish. The art store here in Baltimore had a very limited selection and the employees had and even more limited knowledge of the items and application. I picked a synvar varnish since the label said it was water clear. I took i...

Thanks for all of the replies.
In regards to using Transparent Oils, how should I strain the mix? Can I just pour the mixture through some fabric?

Re: Transparent Glaze - How to question?
Thanks for the replies. It looks like this is a little more complicated that I initially thought thought. I looked online and it seems I'll have no trouble getting HOK. Locally I should be able to locate artist's colors. I'll probably give that a try first. Is there any special varnish I should look...

Transparent Glaze - How to question?
Hello. This is my first post to the board but I've been lurking for a while. I'm constantly impressed by the level of work I see here. This forum has also been a great help since there doesn't appear to be anyone in Baltimore that I could bother for some advice. So, I'm making my first attempt at a ...
