Re: 1 shot thinning

Hello Jake... I started lettering some 30 yrs ago. I've never thinned by pouring it into the paint. I would put some paint into a folded cup... pour some turpentine into a small tin cup. Load brush pallet on glossy magazine page if the paint felt stiff/draggy I'd dip the tip of the brush into the tu...

Re: Hello fellow Sign Painters! Thanks for adding me.

After doing a bit of looking about. I see the letters are more impressed or embossed into the concrete... so they have a flatness to them and not a chiseled cut to them. So coloring will only enhance. On thing you could do is look back into the local newspaper archive I'm sure they did a story back ...

Re: Hello fellow Sign Painters! Thanks for adding me.

Hello,

The field or background would most likely be natural color. Which would of been a nice whitish color when new. As for the incised lettering could of been natural or colored. The green are you sure it's paint and not fungus growth? Either way pressure washing it would be the first step.

7) A green glaze was brushed in over part of the clear glass in a fading style and let dry.

Dan I believe he did a light green wash and built up more glaze to define the shade from lighter to darker.

That's my take from it.

Vance... You need a simple image editor Take a look at GIMP it's a free program that has lots of bells and whistles but is easy to use. Can save in many formats even PDF. Real easy to resize and correct colors add text adjust resolution and so forth. Another KISS option... open the image in MS Paint...

If you have the image up... you should under the edit or image tag, find resize click... and adjust... than save image as... jpeg to folder you can find. This way you still have the image in it's original state.

Re: etched tempered glass problem...

From the look of it... at least from the last pictures. The way the top line has the bloom in the center. To me it looks like maybe (cutting) oil contamination that has wicked into the frost. Maybe try Dawn 2X dish soap see it that will lift it. If it's not that... as a side thought wonder if etchin...

Re: Priming and Painting Galvanized Metal?

The best galvanized metal primer I've used and only one I use. Is Benjamin Moore Bonding Primer. It's a near water thin, blue colored. Dries in about 15 minute to a snap feel when rubbed. I have lighted sign cans I've built 15 yrs old still holding finish coat just fine. That's what I get... should ...

Back lite signs are spray painted with special paints... LACRYL or GripFlex ( pricey paint ). If your first face painting it on white plastic. Like simple text think of locating some Translucent Vinyl you can hand cut or have someone with a plotter cut it for you. Lettering anything other then Black...

Re: bubbles in reverse painted black

Roderick... I believe it's the curse of using the Original One Shot. The New formula just does not act the same. So it could be although it appeared dry it was not cured fulling. The size and leaf sealed and bonded to the paint better so the slight bit of off-gassing then migrated between the glass ...

Re: How was this made?

If you look you'll see the black has cracked under the DOGS with red filling the voids in and the pin line in the N is a different shade of red. So have you consider the possibility that the red oxide color (either paint or panel) was placed sometime after it was removed from service as a way to kee...

I don't uses Trups to clean my brushes... I only use it to maintain or thin paints viscosity. I use cheap mineral spirits to clean brushes and have four jars for that purpose. David, What type of brush... paint and thinner are you using?

Beyond what Pat has stated. The only time I've had that happen was when the paint was to thin or inadvertently dipped into the wrong thinner for the paint.
