I don't know where your located... or how your storing your packs of leaf. But it could be that a rise in humidity caused it to stick.

Re: Seaside signpainting - océan and salt effects

The only color I regularly double coated is red as it oxidizes/fades faster then other colors. I've have sign painted with One Shot or Ronan Bulletin colors on the lake in a resort area keep well for 10- 15 plus years before needing repainted.

Re: Beautiful Art Deco shop in Lisbon!

From the looks of it he pictorial panel seems to be in good shape... It looks like the lettering and numbers are in poor condition. If me I would keep the original floral element and reproduce the name and numbers.

Either way looks like a nice project... keep us updated on you progress.

So you left the darmar to cure for a year.... and it gilt like glass. Cool.
Is the bevel real or painted shading? The dots... mica powder?

Either way good looking piece.

Re: 1 shot thinning

Hello Jake... I started lettering some 30 yrs ago. I've never thinned by pouring it into the paint. I would put some paint into a folded cup... pour some turpentine into a small tin cup. Load brush pallet on glossy magazine page if the paint felt stiff/draggy I'd dip the tip of the brush into the tu...

Re: Hello fellow Sign Painters! Thanks for adding me.

After doing a bit of looking about. I see the letters are more impressed or embossed into the concrete... so they have a flatness to them and not a chiseled cut to them. So coloring will only enhance. On thing you could do is look back into the local newspaper archive I'm sure they did a story back ...

Re: Hello fellow Sign Painters! Thanks for adding me.

Hello,

The field or background would most likely be natural color. Which would of been a nice whitish color when new. As for the incised lettering could of been natural or colored. The green are you sure it's paint and not fungus growth? Either way pressure washing it would be the first step.

Re: Interesting Split Shade Technique...

7) A green glaze was brushed in over part of the clear glass in a fading style and let dry.

Dan I believe he did a light green wash and built up more glaze to define the shade from lighter to darker.

That's my take from it.

If you have the image up... you should under the edit or image tag, find resize click... and adjust... than save image as... jpeg to folder you can find. This way you still have the image in it's original state.

From the look of it... at least from the last pictures. The way the top line has the bloom in the center. To me it looks like maybe (cutting) oil contamination that has wicked into the frost. The best galvanized metal primer I've used and only one I use. Is Benjamin Moore Bonding Primer. It's a near water thin, blue colored. Dries in about 15 minute to a snap feel when rubbed.
