Re: Sunset Plaza Gold Leaf

Hi Doug. These were done on our 408 Gerber Sabre Router. We Routed the Sign Panel, then inscribed the Outlines of the Lettering, which gives us the Layout of the Letters. The Borders were V Carved using the Router. We Routed the Letters separate. After painting and Gilding we Applied the letters to ...

Do you put any detergent in your Size ?
Also, what do you use for Gelatin,

Re: Heating Paint

Pat, does this include the NEW 1SHOT from PPG ?
I have not tried it yet.
I am unsure about the difference between the 2,
the New Formula after Leaded 1 Shot and the other.
Yes, the Old 1 Shot we have acts the same as before.
This New paint baffles me. I still heat my Paint as before.

Heating Paint

Generally speaking, I try to never thin my Paint. I have found using Paint straight from the can the Best way; 1 Shot, Ronan, Chromatic, etc. In the Summer, it flows nice, warm temperatures. In the Winter I will Heat my Paint. What i mean is: I will always try to keep the paint at Room Temp. I will ...

Can you post a Picture ?

Also, you said you rolled the Black on.
When rolling Paint, there is Always small
pockets that are not filled. That is where
Feathering the paint helps. Feathering
with a Brush helps to Eliminate pockets of Air.

Re: ClearCoat over 23k Goldleaf

Hi Lorenzo.

The Customer had applied a couple coats of Varnish, not sure how many,
then sanded it to remove the Sheen. This helps the Size to adhere as well
as the next coat of Varnish. I am sure the more coats of Varnish over the Lettering
would achieve the look you describe.

Re: ClearCoat over 23k Goldleaf

Hi Lee. Thank You for your response. After talking with the customer, I opted to size, leaf, burnish without Engine Turning and Shade 1st Day. I then Cleared with Sikkens and Outlined the Red on the 2nd Day. They did not want the Spin in the Gold, they wanted the Matte finish look. I cleared the Gol...

ClearCoat over 23k Goldleaf

I am doing a wood transom tomorrow. It will be 23K, non-burnished, with a Red Outline & Black Shade. The customer will Varnish over the Job. 1- Would you Size, Gild and Clear the Gold ? 2- Size, Gild, Outline Red & finish the Black Shade, with no Clearcoat ? My thought is after he applies the Varnis...

Tyler,,

No I have not done this before.
During my travels, I saw a window
done with this method.
I quite surprised to see how
well his chip came out. I will
see if I can find the Photo
to show you. How do you
Post a Photo ? I have never
done that also.

Re: Quiz

Tyler, you are correct.
Newspaper is what holds the glue
in place as it sets up.

When doing a Vertical Glue Chip,
apply mask, blast, apply glue,
but a little thicker than normal, maybe
2.5 to 1 ratio. Apply newspaper after 2
minutes. Let rest. 1 hour later, trim
Copy and wait for the chip.
