Re: Advice on brushes

Thank you Kent !
I finally used Fitches (angular's too) but because of the smallness of certain letters i was forced to take some Quills, taking me twice in the holes.
The result is correct (at least for me :)

Re: Advice on brushes

I think the picture accentuates the wall's texture, this is quite soft (i try to reassure myself :) And, yes the paint will stick easily, the wall has already been painted twice. I have big letters but a bunch of little ones to do ... anyway, i think i have enough flats and fitches, time is against ...

Advice on brushes

Hello there. Soon, i'd have to do signage for an hospital in my town. I'll use water-base paints (with low voc and good ability to washability). The walls are dressed with "toile de verre" which i would translate by "glassfibre fabric" - see picture attached. What kind of brushes you'll advise me ? ...

In France there is goldleaf available from mainland Europe, English goldleaf and US goldleaf is made in these two countries. The best brushes in the world are made in France and Germany...

Re: Gold Leaf Starter Kit

Hi Tim ! i have not yet received the Kent's book and even though i'm not an English's master, i'm sure it'll be very useful. From what i've read or view it seems that there's few techniques for applying gold leaf : Water Gilding and Transfer ... Isn't it ? However, terms and things like "water size"...

Hi Danny and Terry ! I already have a bunch of tools like : Quills, outliners, flats, pencils, mahl stick, tracing paper, and enamel paints ... Some of the goods comes from Wrights of the Lymm and i found 1Shot paints from a dealer here in France. I faced this problem of flammable materials but it s...

I hope i'm not boring with all my questions but to be honest that place is a 'goldmine' of informations for me who's in a country where those handcrafted jobs have disappeared ^^ I'm really interested in gold leaf technique so that i ordered the Kent Smith's book to have a first approach. Re: Sign painting with low temperatures

Thank you guys for all your responses.
According to all of you, it seems that the hardener is not a necessary. Only for some particular cases ... and if it's gonna damaged my brushes, no way !

I'll follow Tim's advices and get a small heater with fingerless wool gloves :)

Merci !

Sign painting with low temperatures

Hello there ... i've already searched on the forum about the subject without success. I just wanted to know if it's an obligation to use an hardener when you need to paint in a cold environment where temperatures are between 30° to 40° F ? And what if the environment is warm and the support (like a ...

Thanks Dan :) Hi Robare ! Thanks for the cordial welcome and your precious knowledge. Re: Backing of a reverse glass sign question

Roderick : Thanks. Your 'modus operandi' seems very long to me, according to the drying times, isn't it ? By the way, am i forced to use hardener (1Shot Hardener costs a lot in France) on glass, even if i coat one layer only ? Dan : Thank you, i appreciate ! I'm agree with you on the handcraft jobs ...

Backing of a reverse glass sign question

Hello to all ! I'm french and brand new to sign painting world. Re: New in Signs and questioning !

I'll follow your advices. I already read the faq and notes from 1Shot website. Obviously they recommends to use their dedicated products (Tinting Black & White) to (inter)mix colors ... pure commercial approach. That's why i asked you :) I have one more question on brush's maintenance, what kind of ...

New in Signs and questioning !

Hello there ! I'm brand new in sign painting which i recently discovered, i am currently a french graphic designer for 15 years, practicing graffiti, and mainly a typography's lover. To let you know, sign painting has simply disappeared here since decades ^^ After taking infos from some of you (prob...
