Don't wash the glass, maybe you have oil in your air lines too that would deter the glue from grabbing. Just use a dry cloth or brush to take the dust from blasting off.

Try applying the Mica to a painted surface that is almost dry(still tacky). I painted some ball post finials dark green and dusted with mica and got the most beautiful gold sparkle on the green spheres, with that gold/green colourshifting effect you are talking about.

When I used to silver larger pieces of glass, I used a couple of spray bottles. It has been a few years, but I seem to remember mixing the silver and reducer together in one bottle and the activator in the other. Spray with equal pumps at the same time from each hand on to the glass. It works really...

Along with the other methods of cleaning excess gold off, I have been using "Splash" application fluid concentrate to remove gold. Just wet a piece of cotton and rub gently, it seems to eat the gold right off the glass. Some stubborn bits need a litle bon ami. It really redudes the "g...

I would use Aluminum leaf. It won't tarnish like silver will and is not near as expensive as palladium. I would not clear it either. The clear will fail way before the leaf will. Don't clear the gold either. I have always heard "don't clear the leaf unless it will be touched or on a vehicle&quo...

I have always used laminated glass for prejects like these, but I have not had it bevelled before. You can probably get a bavelled tempered piece for the front side and have a peice of annealed glass laminated to the back for your glue chipping and blasting.

I have seen another method used with photocopies, but can't quite remember it all. Maybe somebody else will remember. Make your photocopy in reserse, lay the copy toner side down on your substrate and wipe the back with.....naptha? alcohol? mineral spirits? can't remember, but it transfers the toner...

Signmaking 101... Flash Gilding with Mica Powder

This will describe how I gild with Mica Powder. It is essentially the same as gold, but using Mica instead of leaf. there is really no substitute for gold, but it is an economical alternative giving similar results when working within a tight budget. 1/ I will paint the sign in a normal fashion and ...

I have used a lot of Mica powder the way Mike describes. It is called "Flash Gilding". I normally use mica for outlining letters. 1/ I will paint the sign in a normal fashion and let dry. 2/ Then I use and egg white mixed in a pint of water to put a wash over the sign so mica doesn't stick...

Hi Mike.. I'm not sure if the administrator mode in win2000 might have your windows folder blocked. I don't know much about Windows higher than Win98.. My wifes puter has XPpro.. maybe I should go look there.. Anyway, on my win98 machine the email is stored in C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Identities....

I looked it up on my win98SE using windows explorer. Select your c: drive and go into Tools, Find, Files or Folders and search for inbox*.* This will search your hard drive for the inbox file. It will show you the path as to where it is and you can copy the whole directory to your backups. If you ta...

Hi Jeff.. Those are the bottles.. Make sure you get the ones that have a large volume of spray. We got ours from Home Depot. I think that they hold a quart of liquid. I'm sure mixing it all together would work, but I think that what you mix would have to be used within a few minutes, where mixing in...

When I was working in Toronto, we used to spray silver out of high voluve spray bottles. We would mix the activator and reducer in one bottle and the silver in the other. After tinning and rinsing, we would grab a bottle in each hand and spray them together so the solutions would mix as they hit the...
