Re: Masterpiece Signs of the World (Images & Addresses)

Hello Eric. Your work is beautiful and exceptionally well crafted. May I ask, do you use screenprinted back-up black and screen printing in your work? Thank you. Keep up the fine work.

Inferior glass gold

Recently purchased Glass Gold - 3 1/8x 3 1/8 - Made in Germany. In sampling this against current glass gold I noticed an obvious difference primarily a slight "mottled" effect. Cpmparisons were made using the same procedure, cleaning prep, sizing, gelatin, application, backup and cleaning ...

Chevrolet has handled a product in the body shop that duplicates the original Bon Ami, Windshield Cleaner/Ami Cleaning Powder #1050011. I have used it with success in preparing glass for gilding.

Interesting application. Is the damar varnish the heavier damar or the picture finish damar? The picture varnish seems too thin for this process. Thank you.

Glass problem(s)

Hello. Never had this problem when doing gold work on glass. 1) Patching step, size beads away from initial gild. 2) Gilding knife cuts cleanly but gold adheres to knife. Patching size was thinned very slightly. Knife is frequently cleaned (maybe static attracting the gold to knife?) Thanks for your...

Is the water based fast dry gold leaf size as effective (and appropriate) on glass work as oil based size. I am thinking primarily of the durability of the product.

Sequence in using Smith's Cream on reverse glass. Mixture of cream, linseed oil and minerals spirits applied first. Next cream plus enamels applied. Is this second step used after the initial cream mix has dried (setup) or while it is wet? I am experimenting but thought I might seek others' experime...

Re: Appropriate thinner/solvent

Sorry that I didn't elaborate. It's a health issue and I wish to minimize exposure. Also, I hoped to have little or no effect on adhesion to the glass. I have tried low odor oil thinners which are "very low odor" and work well with one-shot without affecting adhesion. They are, of course, ...

I am curious. Having had successful glue chipping experience, would others share their success with "the range of temperatures in the chipping stage." I have used 120 to 140. I realize there are many variables but it is always interesting to view others experiences . Thank you.

Not having the opportunity to test many of the different glass gold leafs I am curious what the basic differences are in the different karats and the leaf weights as it applies to (1) handling and (2) the outcome of the gild (less noticeable joints, etc.). Thank you experts. Bob
