I was hoping you would have a position open for a matradee....times being what they are. I have references. I used to slop tables at The Original Greaser Bob's Dugout.

Re: Original Dead Men

I won't be stoppin' at boarding houses where there's warm beds and hot grub on the table. I'll be traveling light and eatin' fast. What little sleeping is done will take place on the ground. This head board reminds me very little of the time I was forced to share a bed with Grandma Turner. Excellent...

Actually, all joking aside, I think Tim's wife has a valid point. You'll live to have another of Sally's fine steaks at Dead Man and we will all benefit from your continued friendship.

The life like appearance of your toe requires time and art. And the chemicals come dear. The particulars are in your $ 3,500.00 deductible. You must pay for everything in this world, one way and another. There is nothing free, except the grace of God.

Re: Quick rubbing varnish.

Give it a whirl and let me know how it works out for you. Are you going to use it for Damar varnish? Someone turned me on to some Damar varnish from Rick Glawson, and I noticed that it was a light honey color. The damar that I made from Behlen was slightly darker in color. That may or may not be an ...

Re: Quick rubbing varnish.

Couldn't tell you that, I've never used Commonwealth. what I do know is that when something is no longer available you try another product or you do without. Behlen products have been around a long time...they are a quality product used by lots of craftsmen. It's a short-oil varnish. It's like runni...

Re: Original Dead Men

I believe that I was reading the paper the other day where a disgruntled patron gunned down innocent women and children in front of the Rio Seco Hotel...yes, I remember now...gunned them down like they was rattlesnakes or somethin'. Nasty business, that.

That's a mighty handsome unit. Makes me sorry I squandered my travelin' money gettin' my .50-95 shootin' iron squared away, I could have seen that rascal in person. I also missed dining with you guys...few people dine with as great a zeal as the Dead Men.

Re: Quick rubbing varnish.

Quick Rubbing Varnish is just another name for a short-oil varnish. Basically they have less oil and are better suited for items you want a hard glossy finish on. A long-oil varnish has more oil and is more flexable..spar varnish. Try " H.BEHLEN Rockhard table top varnish" Part # B603-2850...

Re: lead based paints

Thanks again, Kent If you ever run across your fathers' formulas for mixing paint, would you consider sharing? For some strange reason, I've got this real itch to make up my own paint with lead...just to check it out...how it feels in the brush and how it covers - as opposed to the one shot I've bee...

Re: lead based paints

Thanks, Kent ! I guess I had no idea of the complexity of all this. I was reading a formula for chocolate brown paint - from the late 1930's. It basically went like this: One hundred pounds white lead, 25 pounds of burnt umber, 10 pounds of burnt sienna, 4 pounds chrome yellow, 5 1/2 gallons of lins...

lead based paints

I've always heard that the old "lead based" paint flowed and covered better than the One Shot of today. I know that white lead (lead carbonate) was ground in linseed oil to form a paste, then added to pigment ..which was mulled in linseed oil. To this, was added various amounts of terpenti...

I appreciate your response. That's good to know that this product line can still be accessed...however, $2000.00 is a pretty tough nut to crack these days. I guess the real value at this site, is that there is no minimum. You can buy a pint of quick rubbing varnish for $11.50.

quick rubbing varnish

Not sure if this is of any interest to anyone, but I noticed that it is pretty hard to find quick rubbing varnish these days. So I did a little research into this stuff...turned on my crusty computer and googled "Handling traditional oil varnishes" an article by the New York Times. Paragra...

Need help entering the 21st century

I'm a pin striper in Phoenix (24 yrs.in business) and I've become very interested in hand lettering. My computer & I are barely on speaking terms ...it seems I've let the modern things pass me by. However, as I begin to look at different layouts done on photoshop and see adds for fonts to be use...
