Re: Framed
I typically do one of three things: 1) Have it professionally framed by a reputable frame shop. I like to select one that is independently owned. I tend to avoid places like Aaron Bros. and Michael's, etc. Picking out the perfect molding can be fun...making a single choice can sometimes be arduous. ...

Re: visiting USA in May
In some circles it would be said that the Town of Machine is worth a visit. There's a couple (dozen) gilded signs and such. It's about 30-45 minutes (depending on the time of day) from Frisco, its across the mirror of water over in Hayward. If you'd like to stop by, it would be alright....weekday pr...

Re: Skirting for ACID
Use plastic vat slightly larger than glass. Protect face of glass with coat of asphaltum (or suitable vinyl). Place glass in vat. Fill vat with acid 1/2 inch deep over the glass. Do not pour acid onto glass, pour along side into the vat. Allow to etch for 90 minutes. Remove glass from acid and rinse...

Don Hutchinson contacted me wanting to sell this old sign. He's asking $800 OBO. He's threatening to cut it in half! Must be something can be done..... United Cigar Sign 13feet long circa 1910 (1).jpg Measures 13' - 1" long by 24" high.... If I had the money, I'd buy it for Machine. If you...

Re: Backing up Silver Gild
When using silver leaf, I like to back it up with asphaltum varnish.
However, asphaltum is not strong enough to remove excess leaf
when water gilded. I too, would suggest the 12K leaf backed with
the enamal screen ink, rather than OneShot.
Nice job by the way!

Re: silver leaf question
I always like to use a slower size when doing any type of burnish work like that.
I'd also agree with Mike, I'd use 12K white gold.

I'll second Rod's recommendation on Ron Percell's newly formulated quick size. Ron's size is a lot better than the one-shot.

Hello....I'm Dr Bill Blake, your new podiatrist from Cleveland.
I would be pleased to offer a second opinion on that toe of
yours, but I'd have to see that x-ray first. Perhaps you could
post it here for further evaluation.
Sincerely,
Dr William Blake

There is red food coloring added to the acid so I can keep track of where it is.
