Re: One from Me

Thanks Rich It's not acid etched. It's sandblasted, was deep etched on the outline. Then I use some garnet medium used in water jet cutters and frosted the letter face. Used XX pale gold powder on the outline and yes variegated on the face. Yeah I was happy with the ribbon when I flipped it around. ...

Ron I don't believe it is a lower case i. To me looks like it's a bits of his dirty water soap bubble sizing magic that is shading a capital I.

Cleaning Tip

Ok one of my gold tips is having a bad hair day. What the best way to wash it. It's a single thickness Luco bought back in 82. I tried the size bath but did not help.

The individual tenant slats will be Mag material painted dk gray (one shot w/ hardener) Then plotter-cut lettering. I have had paint peel up w...

Re: Problem With Water Gilding

Hi, Tyler ! I used destilled water and gelatin. Size poured in plastic cup. I heat it in microwave to 40-60 C. I did not wipe the size. I just smear brush on glass. Then i put leafe gold on glass. And wait some time. Then I polish with cotton. I tried to water after application of gold leaf above, ...

Re: Problem With Water Gilding

Andrey, What size is your leaf and what brand? Also what type of water are you using and in what type of vessel are you heating your size in. How hot did you get the size? What are you using to mop on your size? Have you tried taking hot water and flooding the gild? Sometimes you can remove cloudine...

Re: Blad Holder

Castings you say? I've figured it for a straight forward mill and turn job. I've been planning on making a set of small.. medium and large for a while now. But been using pieces of dowel rod slit on the end with copper tie wire and some glue to hold blades.

Re: Back-lit Sign

So it's a pan face... matters not. By flipping it over... you take what was once the top of the sign face and make it the bottom. So if the ghosting read MOM it would now look like WOW.
But then you place your new graphics on it would not jump out as much as it will if not rotated.

Good Luck

Re: Gilding workshop with a pinstriper from Oslo,Norway

Dave

So the glaze is just maroon lettering enamel water thinned with turpentine?

I'd love to be able to take a workshop with you but reality and responsibilities are in the way. All my knowledge comes from books and mistakes... some happy... some not so.

Re: Back-lit Sign

You removed the old graphics but have you cleaned the panel? All outside signs will get environmental haze film on them. I've found that washing the face with Simple Green and a scotch brite pad makes a big difference. Won't remove UV imprint but removing the grime and flipping the panel is standard...

Re: Gilding workshop with a pinstriper from Oslo,Norway

Very nice... as always.

Couple of questions.

(1) How many screens did it take to process those?

(2) The center panel. Is that a glaze backed up with leaf. And if so what is it or how did you mix it?

Well I guess that's rally four question.

Re: painting on auto glass

Well two things come to mind. One the temp it's keeping your paint in a plastic state and weak bond with glass. I believe Robare is correct most if not all auto glass has a performance coat on them to help shed dirt... like rain x plus or such. You can also try placing the car out of direct sunlight...

I have in the past backed up leaf with 1 Shot and never had a failure of that nature. Would like to see a front photo of the glass as it looks interesting from the backsid...
