Re: Gold leaf on glass versus vinyl gold products

I think everybody should buy some Signgold glass
version just so you can show the customer the
difference. Because I think Signgold (probably)
has the closest thing to to real gold, but what
I saw was not very impressive at all.

So Kent, did you clearcoat the van job? What did you
use?

Re: How much would you charge

Thanks for all your inputs. Points well taken. Customer is close by. I think too much copy to do a matte center though. This would be a screen print job. My thinking is I would do a translucent enamel ink outline which would double as a backup for the gold also. You are right Kent not many people do...

Re: Frog Juice over Gold

I personally wouldn't trust Frogjuice over gold as I have seen it fail. What I do think would work is Chromatic Ticote #1010 gloss. On a test piece in my backyard has held on copper leaf, I'm thinking gold would be just fine too. It is a waterbased clear acrylic that sticks to most everything. My ba...

Re: Screenprint exposure

I'm curious about the emulsion idea. I'm am familiar with emulsion and all but I'm not sure why you would need to go that route. As I recall emulsion needs chemicals for the washout. The emulsion idea seems somewhat laborious for my needs. I have been using Chromaline Reflex. It is a exposure film t...

Re: Sandblasted redwood signs

I agree with the above posts of Kent and Raymond. But maybe this discussion would be of help if you gave us an idea of what the design was about. Just verbiage, $125./sf or $3000. on HDU is a good bet. I would use 2" - 18# with a grainframe. Add for raised letters and other various features. Is...

Re: Aura Paints - Tony?

A couple thoughts Kelly. An aluminum composite panel. I'm guessing like a Di-Bond type panel? How big is your mural? My first thoughts with what you've said is another primer. XIM has a water based UMA in white and their solvent based 400 white which when applied with a roller might just give you so...

Kelly,
You said a slicker surface. You might want to elaborate on what
kind of surface you are talking about.

Re: HDU Primer Question

I'm assuming the problem is the lack of adhesion. This took me awhile to get this one dialed in. I use Signfoam 18#. Pretty dense cells here. I was' just putting my XIM- UMA water base primer directly to the Signfoam. I was getting chunks of primer/enamel coming off when I peeled off the Anchor Cont...

Re: Painting acrylic plastic

When you talk about painting on acrylic I'm thinking you should be good to go with just 1-Shot directly. Ronan Aqua Cote (should) be the same. Watch the static electricity. If it occurs a wet rag on the back might neutralize the static. In any case run a test. If it is not sticking Chromatic Ti-Cote...

Re: Enlighting 3D Gilded objects.

In the shop I use 'multi spectrum' flourescent (white light) bulbs. They emulate what real sunlight wave lengths would be. There is also a bit of
science that says those inexpensive flourescent bulbs that kinda
go yellow and dim on you really are not so good for the brain.

MJ is right just apply liberally (wear plastic gloves) have a plastic scraper handy to scrape sides off into a dixie cup. That's basically it but I'm not sure why you would want to go with epoxy anyway. Titebond II weatherproof with the duck on the plastic bottle is more than sufficient. I have weig...

Re: Glass Signs (Showcase your work here!)

A couple question for Dave Smith.
- How did you achieve the 3D dimensional look in 'Bull and Brush'
- I'm thinking you lay more gold than angel gilding. What is your
thinking there? Is there a preference?

Sure hope you are around for many more years. Incredible inspiration!

I found a way around that. I use www.carbonite.com. It backs up all your files automatically as you work. Just tag all th...

Not sure what I'm looking at with the the piece of HDU a couple posts above. I brought the picture into Photoshop to see what I was looking at. Is the HDU finished out? Does not appear to be porous. What I guess I'm getting at is Dibond with PU glue onto HDU (painted or not) is probably not what you...

bearing in mind a 32 bit system can only use up to 3 gig of Ram. Doesn't matter what programs you are using. 64 bit systems can then go past the 3 gig. If you have a 32 bit system and load up up past 3 gig. it is to no avail. ...if you want to go 64 bit you may want to upen that up to another conver...

Angel Gilding

I did a search to see if anybody has talked about 'Angel Gilding' as to not be redundant but it appears nobody has.
