There are endless possibilities when it comes to creating a design on a piece of glass, but it's possible to record the steps taken for a particular project. There are some gaps in my knowledge, but here is how the project came together from my perspective: Design: Larry created the design, so that...

How do you transport glass?
I will be going to some meets where glass work will be the focus. I will be flying, so I'm worried about getting the glass home safe and sound. I have an idea for a crate to bring with me, but I'd also like to benefit from the experience of others. Any wisdom you can provide will be much appreciated...

I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for Jill. It's in a book called Applied Lettering. The authors are George Evans and Christine Cash: http://www.russmcmullin.com/grid_alphabet.jpg Amazon has used copies listed for a buck and change from various sellers. I have no desire whatsoever to make my own chemicals, but it seems like experiments could be more meaningful with some basic understanding of the process. You have alot more experience making mirrors, so if you say it's not important, than I guess it isn't. What I really want to know is how to care ...

What are the mirroring chemicals and what do they do?
Don't worry, I'm not thinking of making my own. I just want to understand what the different solutions do, and how they should be handled. How photosensitive are these solutions, and how should they be stored? How long do they last? I notice that there is a reducer and activator for each of the gild...

Mike, thanks for the tip about diluting the silver on the first layer. I will keep trying different things. My third mirror definitely looks better than the first two. The point you make about not needing wide, flat areas of mirror is well taken. I want to add etching and chipping to my experiments ...

Sarah, I caught that one out before I started. When 30:1 became 1:1, I knew something was up. No worries. Here is another attempt from today: http://www.russmcmullin.com/mirror_blemish2.jpg The stripe on the side is a reflection. The dark coiled shape is the blemish I keep seeing. Other than that, t...

I really appreciate the feedback. I had looked at the fronts briefly, but they hadn't been backed up. Hoping it would make a difference I applied the backup paint and went to work - where I wrote my post. I came home and turned the mirrors over. The blemishes are still there. I did my best to captur...

I really haven't taken a good look at the front of the mirror yet, so I am going by what I'm seeing as the mirror is made. I silvered it twice and that didn't make much difference. The cloudy pattern is darker than the surrounding area - not really a color, just gray. Swirls may not be the right wor...

mirror making question
Rather than hijack another thread I'll start my own. I just got started today with the Master Tool Kit. My test pieces are 9"x12" panes from Lowe's. I did two of them, and I got some faint, cloudy swirls in the silvering. The swirls show up right after I put down the mixed silver solution....

I would try a different spyware remover and see if it finds more stuff. Adaware and Spybot are both good. Spysweeper is my favorite. I have been spyware free for over a year with Spysweeper. Sometimes one program will miss something that another program will catch. If the Microsoft spyware program d...
