The colors in the picture are fairly close to the real thing, however the photo doesn't capture the metallic quality of it. The dark areas in the design are clear glass which appear as copper mirror. There is also a mirror brightline around the whole thing. An interesting thing about toned etching a...

Palms Transfer Ornaments...
http://www.walljewelry.com/post/PalmsWeb.JPG I found this vector file loitering around on my computer. I believe it was vectorized by Don Coplen. It was just calling to become a toned acid piece. The glass has been cut to shape with the sandblaster, then the toned acid process, followed by a copper...

Step-by-step
In doing a search on this site, I found a step-by-step that I had put up on this board some time ago. Although it doesn't include any acid etching, it gives a pretty thorough rundown of the steps in creating a nice glass sign. https://handletteringforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8&highlight=labe...

Ya, stick with the acid/mica technique. This will yield a bright sparkly finish when solution or water gilded. Don't leave the mixture on any longer than the instructions say. You can pretty much figure it all out from Rick Glawson's instructions on the Letterhead site: http://theletterheads.com/gla...

Might you have an overview of the different techniques that will be addressed in your workshop.
Put me on your list too... I want to come down and grind some sushi.

Hey, I'm doing one of these as we speak. I like to place the mask for the acid etch (positive) on the glass, asphaltum the whole thing, then weed the vinyl out exposing the areas to apply the mica to. Do the etching and rinse. Then I register the sandblast mask over the whole thing (which covers ove...

John Yarnell asked me the same questions. I told him the edges would plink if you left the mask on. He did a sample of all the various methods. The ones with the mask left on had plinked edges. The one with the mask removed had only minor edge defects. The mask is removed because it's the right way ...

Glass Sign Restoration-Laramie, Wyoming
Mark Kucera of Groathouse Construction (phone: 970-226-5852) is looking for someone in the Laramie, Wyoming area (or willing to travel to) to restore this old glass sign, right here in our own hotel. It has been stated that the only real problem is the peeling of the background paint. However, upon ...

Dickinson again...Different versions of the same art...
At a Letterhead meeting held at my shop in back in 2005 in Hayward, CA, many of the folks attending created a ficticious Dickinson Metal Works sign. Here are a few pictures of some of the completed ones. It's always quite interesting to see different people's takes on the same artwork. Many thanks t...

glue blobs..
Hi Raymond-
I've encountered both reactions, the "oatmeal" version and the odder blob of coagulated honey surounded by liquid. I just plugged in the pot and let it cook up. The molten glue appeared the same as usual. It also work the same as all other times.

The Larry White method...
Hi Catherine, My approach for reverse glass is slightly different from the screen print method. I am not a screen printer as of yet. I enjoy doing most of my work by hand. I suppose there could be a debate on which method is faster on a "one off" piece. Speed was never a concern of mine. I...

Transporting Glass...
Aho- For those of you that have attended out of town Letterhead meetings and have flown in, I was curious as to what would be the largest size glass panel that is comfortable to transport back with you? If a preordered shipping container was made available for purchase ahead of time, would that aid ...

Awhile back there was an announcement of someone organizing a Letterhead meet at an old ghost town in Arizona. I haven't heard any more about it, nor could I find the old post. Does anyone know anything about this event?

Conclave XVIII piece...
The Conclave piece is 1/2" thick Starphire (extra clear) glass which was cut to that shape using a sandblaster. It took about 20 minutes to cut it out. Then with a fine tip, I went around the edge to create the serrated edge. That took about 2 hours. The Conclave letters were then depth carved ...

Angel Gilding over Glue Chip...
http://www.walljewelry.com/post/Chickering.jpg Hey Keith- This one was Angel Gild over double glue ghipped glass. After the glass has chipped, the chipped surface is virtually new, uncontaminated glass. You just need to ensure you clean off the remaining bits of glue. But being fresh raw glass, it ...
