Re: glass etching

I've been using Venture Tape Sandblast Resist for years. Wouldn't use anything else. 4, 8, and 15 mil. Cuts perfect in my vinyl cutter, weeds clean and easily off the glass when finished. I'm not sure how it compairs in cost to sign vinyl, but I'm with Dan that if you're not using the right thing, i...

Re: Artists brush and acrilyc .

I loved lettering with Liquitex Gray Squirrel Quills, but they don't make them anymore. Lately I've been using Scharff Gray Squirrel Quills and find that I like them almost as much. Check out their line of sign painting brushes here. Scharff Sign Painting Brushes Other boys swear by these... Wrights...

Lookin' good, Rich!

It is hard to take good pictures of this stuff.
Mine looks better in person.
Looks like you added some additional "hard line" detail in the boats.
Look forward to seeing your second run also.

Re: Signs From Sydney Australia

I would be lead to believe that the texture on the Caldwell's lettering is a "spounged" acid resist, like asphaltum, into the open area of the letter centers, then a face up liquid acid emboss.....

but what do I know....

Re: Glass Thickness

I typically do most my stuff on 1/4" plate glass. Every now and then I get a rejected piece of "sign size" tempered glass, sometimes 3/8" thick, sometimes 1/2", but they get rather heavy. Smaller things you could use 3/16" thick glass, but 1/4" is pretty much the s...

Re: Toughened glass

Nah.... you won't see any difference in the way "toughened" glass acts as opposed to regular annealed float glass. Although you can't depth carve it, and a resulting glue chip pattern is less desireable than what you'd get on float glass.

I agree with you Erik with a K. :D I'd rather enjoy looking at the art for the rest of my days, than to look at a pile of money for a few weeks then its gone. You're also right, that those prices should be 25% higher, as they were priced some time ago. When I finished the Lloyd & Magnus sign, my...

Hi Vance- I have an "Available Now" section on my website. If you click on the thumbnail, it will bring up a larger picture, which also shows the size and the asking price. You can deduct $200-$300 for the fancy frames, and you can see what I charge, not that there's any set formula. The m...

Re: Transparent Glaze - How to question?

Hi Bill- The most important thing to remember about doing any type of transparent glaze, is to use a transparent paint or pigment. Trying to achieve a transparent glaze by mixing an opaque paint, such as OneShot, into a clear medium, just won't work. If I'm not mistaken, Letterhead Sign Supply sells...

Re: Original Dead Men

As for Bob's glue chippin' problem...we've seen that a few times over here in Machine...where the glue just peels up in a large section leaving the sandblast without any chip pattern. I believe that could be caused by 3 factors. 1) The glue isn't hot enough. 2) the glue is too thick (not enough wate...
