Dave ,
Would I be correct in asuming that you are firing the red stain on first and then mirroring over that?If so what would the stain be made of?
In the second photo it looks like there was a black resedue that was wiped off to revel the stain.

Sara, It's great that we have the Forum to share all of these ideas.I was thinking you could have called me to tell me this but then no one else would know, I like the time frame for the chemicals to settle.I normally let the waste water settle in old 2.5 water bottles but it was taking for ever, 2-...

silver mirroring and angel guilding
A few months ago I was getting ready to silver a large antique mirror order. While mixing my a,b,c solution that would be later sprayed I was having a real probelm with the a,b component of the mixture. When the "B" was added to the "A" the solution turned cloudy and grey.I found ...

Felix, I don't know what Larry means by double cut. After looking at your post I am thinking your formula might be a bit to strong and you might be putting to much on.I now put cardboard spacers all over the piece before pouring over the whole thing. It should be ready to cut and peel off the mask wit...

Doug, Now theres a great question. The very nature of a crackle finish is the fact that the paint is cracking and pealing off so you have to be ready for your finish to change over time.A classic crackel finish would be fat over thin. That means oil based over water based (glossy). Those finishes takes...

I have always done it the traditional way but I am thinking of useing a vynil mask to apply the matt centers ,peel off the mask and then water guild the bright lines. Then all I would ne...

Just an amendment to the mix. 2.75 oz of used glue when remelted will produce roughly 1oz of useable glue. I rehydrated 5.5 oz. of used glue chips and skimed off the glass resedue, weighed that at 3.5 oz. so what I had left was 2oz. of useable glue.Unfortunatly I used the 1:2 ratio for the 5 oz.s so ...

Hi everybody, The best chipping I've done so far is to really watch the thickness of the glue.I put poster board strips on the sides of the artwork and use a stiff dry wall knife to sqeege the exes off.It seems to always chip great if I do that.My booth heat is 130 to 140 .8% to 11% humidity and wil...
