Re: New Video

Hey Rod, Finally found time to set back, relax, and watch this. How perfect and entertaining it was. What you have done here is capture the Rod I've come to know after many years of having phone conversations and meeting up at conclaves. Not only your accumulated love and knowledge of your craft, bu...

Re: No news?

Erik,
That is a neat tour of your abilities. Along with your recent website update it should make your services even more pronounced.
Keep us informed about how these changes affect your studio's job inquiries and presence competition-wise in your area.

Re: Glass Etching Cream

So if I understand you correctly, what you are saying is you want to add something to thicken your traditional white acid mixture in order to make it less tricky in avoiding water marks and imperfections in the ground(white) tone, is that correct? Two things to note. Acid creams contain ammonium bif...

Re: Glass Etching Cream

There are so many variables in etching glass that I could write a book. Etching cream is easy to do on smaller areas and glasses because it allows for little flaws that are not so greatly pronounced as those that would be in a large glass piece or window. But to address this question directly in you...

Re: glue chipping issue

"On one side the glue lifted in one solid piece without chipping the glass" To me, this is a sign that this area of glue dried to fast. Was your glass level and pre warmed? It was probably just thousands thicker than the area that chipped. The fact that it rolled up instead of chipping sug...

Re: Shipping gilded glass

I always ship sizable flat glass pieces crated standing up on edge. I attach wooden feet with braces to the crate with a notice "MUST SHIP UPRIGHT DO NOT TO REMOVE FEET" and mark the crate as "TIP INDICATORS INSIDE". (A bluff, or you can really add some to aid in insurance claims...

Re: No news?

When you think about it, most coatings are workable either when they are heated, or dissolved in a solvent. They set up hard when either the solvent evaporates, or the heat dissipates. I believe that your problem is that these two materials are based on two completely different based resinous materi...

Re: Renewing your driver's license?

Hi Mike, And Happy Birthday to you also. Now you have me worried. My late mother had my original birth certificate, God only knows what became of it, and I never thought much about it till today. Yikes! they might send me to Mexico if I can't find it. I could be deported or something. I guess techni...

Haha, more like a "beak" preview. Is that a French parrot?
By the way, did you know that feathers are good for stirring the acid around when you are etching flashed glass?
