Re: bubbles in reverse painted black

Roderick... I believe it's the curse of using the Original One Shot. The New formula just does not act the same. So it could be although it appeared dry it was not cured fulling. The size and leaf sealed and bonded to the paint better so the slight bit of off-gassing then migrated between the glass ...

Re: How was this made?

If you look you'll see the black has cracked under the DOGS with red filling the voids in and the pin line in the N is a different shade of red. So have you consider the possibility that the red oxide color (either paint or panel) was placed sometime after it was removed from service as a way to kee...

Re: My brushes are splitting down the middle.

I don't uses Trups to clean my brushes... I only use it to maintain or thin paints viscosity. I use cheap mineral spirits to clean brushes and have four jars for that purpose. First to clean oil from cleaned brush before using... one for first wash after painting... then move to next for deeper clea...

Re: My brushes are splitting down the middle.

David, What type of brush... paint and thinner are you using?

Beyond what Pat has stated. The only time I've had that happen was when the paint was to thin or inadvertently dipped into the wrong thinner for the paint.

Re: Tinting between glass and leaf

I've had very good results using transparent artist oil colors, like for fine oil painting. If you look on the tube, it'll say "Transparent". Use only the transparent variety. Semi-transparent and opaque types won't work. Also, on the tube, will be a color fastness rating. Get the highest...

A little something

Made this one up to added to the wall glass is oval 10" x 8" wide. Still struggling with the photos... deep frame and the angle of the shot makes the outline appear off ( it's not ). Had fun cutting the oval in 1/4" glass... but real happy with the way they came out.

I used a little oil filled radiator style electric heater. Set a couple boards over sawhorses placed glass on them and slid it under on low setting to warm glass. Moved glass to level bed and poured glue to allowed it to first stage dry. Was planning to put heater back under glass on low... But glas...

So about week and a half ago I was driving to town and on the side of the road was a large glossy black square setting on the snow.. I thought it was a piece of heavy plastic. So pulled over to grab it. Turns out to my surprise it was GLASS. Seems to be a vintage piece of Vitrolite right down to the...

Hi David, Linseed oil is a drying oil, meaning it can polymerize into a solid form. I would take some Turpentine (real, bona-fide, distilled spirits of gum Turpentine, and not some Odorless Mineral Spirits or Turpenoid masquerading as "Turpentine"), and soak them and try to remove it by di...

Re: Preparing glass for etching

Commercial cleaners can have agents added to coat the surface to repel dirt. So I stick to the old school basics like Pat... Bon-Ami, Bo Peep ammonia or white vinegar in distilled water. Don't mix the two together as they will neutralize each other. So use one or the other mixed with the water. I us...

Very nice... I really like how the boarder flows into the thin frame giving it more weight. Looks like this could be a companion piece to the drawings you posted earlier.
