Re: The Future of Hand Painted lettering with Gold Leaf

I think at this point in history gold leaf glass signs are enjoying a resurgence in popularity. With the help of the World Wide Web more people are seeing gold leaf glass signs and the contemporary artists creating those pieces. They are also able to see the historic nature of the craft and those tha...

Custom Glass Signs

Thought I would post a photograph of a nice glass bar mirror I just finished. The lettering texture was created by stippling 1 hr size into the open windows and first gilding with skewings of Paladium leaf. Then another layier of paladium and silver leaf backed up by silver one shot. I watergilded t...

Re: Which comes first the mirror or the sign?

Thanks for the link Lee, I remember that step by step of mirroring the on site window. One question, why did you choose to mirror it rather than water gild 12k gold leaf ? I have purchased my mirroring chemicals from both Sara and Peacock in the past but now buy them from Del Amo in LA. They only se...

Re: Which comes first the mirror or the sign?

Hi Kim, For me the choice is , What does the design look like ? If the design is simple without alot of fussy art or small details then I prefer to mirror first. The mirror backing paint I use has a very hot solvent base so it's always better to do the mirroring first. Second thing is cleaning the g...

Re: Fast Gold Size

One shot fast size has turn out to be pretty bad. It is great to gild with but once the can is open it skins over and get's thick quick. A pint doesn't last very long. I really like Ron Percels quick size. Very happy with it.

Some people call it foam core. it's used in the framing industry as a backer/filler behind art work for mounting.

Re: Signs From Sydney Australia

Sorry for the misinformation. I should have waited until Larry and Dave spoke up.

As for attaching prints behind glass I normally tape them to the back of the glass and back the finished piece up with thick gator foam to keep the print pressed up against the glass.

New web site Cedros Avenue Signs

Cedros avenue is a chic design district in Solana Beach, San Diego. One of my clients owns one whole block of the district. I've been fortunate to have created quite a few signs in the area. I decided awhile ago to create a web site in order to get more work there. Thanks to John Arnott for creating...
