Re: Handpainting tradition of Bavarian and Tirolan houses

Wow, I got a really good feeling looking at all those hand painted embellishments. Really sets off the buildings! I like the way they include the painted shadows to make the elements look so dimensional. It all makes it seem so quaint and unique. Sort of cheery-like. Just think if the graffiti artis...

Jerry,
That is a sweet piece. As good as gilded or mirrored glue chip looks on flat glass, it looks even better on slumped and bent glass.

Re: Vertical and/or horizontal for glue chip process

They put the glue on too thick, and overlapped some areas. It was too thick to fly off the glass in free flying chips. Pulling the mask off with the glue still attached is a good way to get chips outside your lines as well as splotchy unchipped areas. It looks like they used CONTACT brand shelf/draw...

Re: Glue Chipping Test Result...

The glass that chipped away revealed the hidden pressures that sand blasting with larger grit imparts into the glass surface. Glass has a lengthy "memory" when pressure is exerted on it's surface. This is a good example of why tempered glass can break when blasted too deep or with too larg...

The etchings were depictions of their tools, weapons, and boats. In keeping with the natural sandstone material, I chose ...

Nice work Erik. Those are good art pieces. That style would look good in the lobby of an upscale Amsterdam hotel or a software giant's conference room. Good markets to shoot for, maybe in limited production autographed runs. Clever use of the posterized black tree details to accent the gilded mica t...

Seeing all of the pieces reminds me of the early 80's and of being in Dean's office in South Pasadena. There he had his drawing board and I saw the originals of these designs cut by hand into rubyliths with cut out windows into which film negative details were spliced. These "ruby's" were ...

Re: DIY Chrome kit

Are you planning to mimic traditional chrome plating by substituting silvering and then protecting it with clear powder coating? If this is the case, I think that you will have to be able to apply a very smooth powder coat finish, and from my experience the very nature of the powder heat cure finish...

Re: silvering plastic an alternative to chrome plating plastics

I don't have knowledge of any specific process for silvering materials other than glass, except to note that I found that materials around my silvering area would take on the silver overspray and become mirrored. From this I would suspect that anything with a fairly smooth surface that will retain t...

Nice work Rod. I like the figures in the center. How did you do them? Reverse painted or affixed from behind?
Are those jewels around the outside or were those etched and then cleared before silvering?
It's difficult to tell. Either way you do fine work.
