Re: Bruce Jackson's photo archive - 4 - insurance window

There should be museum for these sorts of pieces. (Is there one somewhere in the US?)
That would also allow for them to have the piece safely removed and donated/sold to such a museum.

Re: Brillant Carving set up for sale.

Being able to actually see Dave's equipment on his new (lovely!!!) film has helped to answer a lot of questions that I have had. The thing that has made me continually perplexed is that Rich Samsel once told me that he can use smaller (therefore less expensive, when it comes to diamond composition) ...

Re: Brillant Carving set up for sale.

My question is, how small a wheel can be put on it and still clear the fairly large looking bearings. 1) In fact, looking at Rich Samsel's cutting lathe as well as Pat's, I have the same question, and have had for awhile, regarding their respective setups. Rich tells me that despite the trade-offs, ...

Re: Paris glass and Lucien Helle

......Mike, Any tips on the camera, filters or angles I should use? Erik Not Mike here, but just remember that flash is going to make a big nasty glare on any flat glass surface. Of course, a tripod with a nice open lens would be the best way to go, but I am not yet getting the warm feeling that th...

Re: Cycling trip through the Alps.

Erik,
You are so incredibly fortunate to live in Europe with all this art and antiquity simply oozing out of the cracks, every which way you turn.
I want to see it ALL!

Re: Glue chip glass problem

There are industries that do NOT recycle their grit, but it is notvery common. I used to get #30 SiC at Spokane Abrasives for very little money for just this reason. The company using it needed SiC of a certain mesh, and after that could not use it anymore for their particular use, and sold it back ...

Re: Glue chip glass problem

I think a little coarser than 220 is probably better.
Whether that will make the difference you need, I don't know. Probably contaminated like Erik suggests.

Re: Glue chip glass problem

Hmmmmm.......if it is indeed contaminated..... If you are using a vinyl mask, then it is almost for certain a petroleum based adheasive, (as is the asphaltum), so if it were me, before trashing the piece, I think I would try cleaning with denatured alcohol first and reblasting. Maybe lacquer thinner...

Re: Rick Glawsons Glass

Well, I would call it a sketch, as it is shaded with cross-hatching on glass..... Whether Rick drew/re-drew it or not, I am amazed at the dimensionality rendered by this technique. Other than the gild, you mean to tell me it is just a flat acid etch, with no other relief and the very artful hatchwor...

Re: Rick Glawsons Glass

What's the story on the female head drawing?
One of Rick's?
What technique?
A dainty and sensitive sketch, I think.

Re: Painted mirror

Erik, In study, quite a lot..... in practicum, not as much. I have completed a little bit of translating of the Czech book....will need Dasha or others to fill in a few of the blanks when I get to that point. Mica acid supplies are on their way.....and I hope to get my cutter back up here by next we...

Re: Painted mirror

Erik,
This is an old post, so I suspect you have probably figured it out by now, but the glass on the far right appears to be flashed glass with two levels of acid etch.
