Thanks Mike...

Thank you for spending the time to answer the question and give some good info and input. Yes, it is frustrating that folks won't just throw down a 1 minute answer, but I see it happens all over. I enjoy teaching and will be going back to school soon to get my masters so I can inspire and motivate p...

Clear for Gold on Vehicles...

First, I would like to say that it is great to see all the visitors reading the posts, but very few, if any people actually give any input. This site is for teaching as well as learning... so please, share your knowledge. I know this question is asked all the time, but I haven't found any answers on...

Keep at it...

Hello again, I started teaching myself 8 years ago, and learned lots by trial and error, after meeting Alan Johnson at a car show (he was showing his old stake body), he told me to subscribe to Auto Graphics magazine (by NBM) and to go to shows where I would meet all kinds of "Letterheads"...

Work surfaces

Hey Tom, Good for you, keep the craft alive! Anyway, when I was first starting out, as mostly a pinstriper (but still use paint), I was told to practice on glass. There are a couple of reasons for this, first you can put some rule lines on the back and then paint the whole thing white or tape a piec...

Great idea...

Hey Mike, That is a great idea! I actually have panels painted in all 40 of the 1-shot colors and started marking them out for doing the other 39 colors on each one, just to see some interesting color reactions and some color ideas I haven't thought of. That is a lot of work, but one day I will get ...

Favorite Color Mixes??? could be fun and informative

Just wondering about some color fomulas people like to mix and what colors they look good upon, and who has a good formula for Peach. One color that I made that came out really nice is Vermillion and Chamois, it gave me a nice antique looking warm red, it looks really nice on a medium red background...

Crazy Lettering and Car art...

I know this is a site of mostly traditional types of lettering and techniques, but I have always felt that these guys aren't given enough exposure for the immense talent they possess. http://www.latinairbrush.com/introenglish.html If you are ever in their neighborhoods, look them up and meet them, j...

MOOSE

I have heard of a moose frequenting down town Burlington, anybody whose been there will know that there isn't much wilderness near there, so that was a long walk!
Nice catch of the moment.

With a Mac it is Command + Shift + 3 and you get a picture of anything that is on your screen at that moment. Just watch where your cursor is!

Screen ink for glass....

I am about to get back into leafing on glass and try out Steven Parrish's technique of screening the outlines and then backing it up etc... I am curious what actual inks he used or others use for this purpose and also inks to avoid. I was just looking on the Nazdar site and they do still offer Lacqu...

Aluminum Leaf Questions.

Hey there, I know this is the best place to ask anything that has to do with leaf, so here I go. I am gettting ready to do a sign with silver metal leaf letters on the top and Goldleaf letters on another part of the sign. My questions are... Should I use aluminum leaf? Should I clear it? What size s...

That is GREAT STUFF!

Hey Mike, That is a great video! My friend's grandmother was a gold beater and he has her old table and all her supplies too. I guess it is rare to find anyone just on the street that does that sort of thing. You should put all these shows on a tape or disc and sell them, I would love to purchase so...

What Pounce Powder Do You Use?

Hey, I was wondering what type and what color pounce powders everyone is using. Also, are there people that still use pounce wheels instead of electro-pounces (exclusively, not for emergencies on site). My colors are Red, now Black and Blue and they are charcoal dust and chalk line powder. So far, s...

BRAVO!

This is all great info! My main business is pinstriping, lettering and KUSTOM painting trucks & motocycles here in central VT. The folks here don't have lots of money and those that do don't like to spend it on the paint work. I have turned down a $2500 'Real Fire' kustom paint job on a bike bec...

Thank you Mike, that info is like gold to me! I wish I knew that I wanted to be a sign painter when I was younger, then I woud have been able to meet some of these old-timer painters. Since I am 30, even when I was young there probably weren't too many around. I love hearing the stories, seeing the ...

Vertical Screen Printing

G'Day all, I was reading about Steve Parrish on the main page and it said he had a trick to vertical screen printing before and I guess afterward. I too have heard of this while I was taking classes in glass gilding with Brendon Brandon a few years back. Can anyone describe, or is there a book that ...

Sign Kits....

Hello All, I am looking for the collapsible multi-teared sign kits that DeWayne Connot, Peter 'Gunn', etc... have. They are typically blue and have 2 posts that the shelves go up and down on, with wheels on the bottom. Does anyone know where to get one of these and about what they go for? I have a p...
