Re: Graphite Mirror
It has always seemed to me that the critical part of silvering on plastic was the sensitizing, but we only tried it a couple of times. Judging by all the bar mirror advertisements in the world, somebody knows A) how to get acrylic to accept silver, and B) how to silver over paint without tarnishing...

Re: Graphite Mirror
well after manually peeling the nickel plated spoon, I found out that the nickel plated well to the graphite, but its the graphite not sticking to the shiny glossy 2k urethane paint(automotive grade) seems that they glossy surface is only good for the graphite to show its shine. I´ll try it with a r...

Re: Silvering with Hand Held Triger Sprayers
Ismael, You must understand that the silver on glass is very fragile and will scratch even with a soft wond. it depends on how strong or good the sensitizing(stanous chloride) formula is. I have had plastic spoons silvered which withstood a lot of rubbing from my thumb, I was trying to see how good...

Re: Silvering with Hand Held Triger Sprayers
One issue we isolated some years ago at Chromatic was a consistent source of tarnishing with clears and other coatings. The variable is in the solvents. Many petroleum based solvents such as mineral spirits contain significant quantities of sulfur. Most automotive grade two component urethanes and ...

Re: Silvering with Hand Held Triger Sprayers
Have you found that the pump sprayers do a better job than a silvering gun, or is it to keep the start-up investment at a minimum? I believed to be both... I was having issues with my air compressor, too much moisture and Oil, even with expencive filters and all. to mee its one less variable I have...

I don't know about that Larry, I found the whole video rather stirring. ;) ... yeah I know, I made the reducing formula that way because if is too fast then the silver ends in the solution and not in the glass... I think it would help to know what the chemicals you are using are. simpl...

Re: the importance Surface tension and Silvering front surfaces

I had found that using a surfactant soap to clean glass in preparation to silvering made the silver take to the glass surprisingly fast. do you have that soap's name? I know that probably I will not be able to find it in nicaragua, but I can find the main ingredients in the internet, probably a non...

Re: the importance Surface tension and Silvering front surfaces
In your past examples, as in plating plastic spoons, where silvering odd shapes is the object to be silvered, there may be other preperation steps required for that paticular application. If that's the case, contact Angle Gilding, Angelgilding.com for additional information or chemicals. Thanks alo...

the importance Surface tension and Silvering front surfaces

Re: Zinc Nitrate in the making of whiter Mirrors
There must be, like aluminium, gold silver and probably any other metal. But I do not know how. And i think for your quest it is not interesting, since the metall is not noble enough and would deteriate to quickly before you would be able to protect it. Maybe that is why aluminium is so popular now...
