My guess is that it makes the silver layer harder and maybe deposit a little heavier. Could be they add the zinc to cut the silver content and stretch their dollars. But that's just a guess. Pat Could a Single Displacement Reaction be happening? is there a way to deposit zinc in a silver like manner?

Zinc Nitrate in the making of whiter Mirrors

some Spray on chrome systems use zinc nitrate(MSDS) in their formula, I would guess its to make the front surface mirrors they are calling chrome a whiter toner? :?

is this even possible?

I can not deduct what happened after the six months... let me help you then, even if the part that was Silvered was not mine, I am having the same issue, Humidity got to the Silver, it happens a lot, seems that Clear coats are not meant to be applied over bare metal, just over base coats... :x ther...

Are you planning to mimic traditional chrome plating by substituting silvering and then protecting it with clear powder coating? If this is the case, I think that you will have to be able to apply a very smooth powder coat finish, and from my experience the very nature of the powder heat cure finis...

Ismael, I just have the feeling that not every surface will bond with tin.... Erik you are right sir...I dont use it on bare plastic, I prep the plastic first, primer, white base coat followed by clearcoat, this is my base later I apply the silvering then the protective clear coat..I have test most...

Why is it you think you need to back silver with tin ? Most commercial mirrors are backed with copper. its not to back it up.. :D its more for a First Surface Mirror.....I know I can always clear coat them, but they will lose the whole FS Mirror apeal a customer is look for... Thank you friends for your kind words. I feel very doubtful about the chemistry involved in trying to sensitize the glass with lead instead of tin.
