amazing super repellent spray coating

This stuff is mind-blowing!
If asphaltum can repel hide glue, this stuff might make it rear up and gallop straight off the glass!
Maybe the next best thing next to teflon coating for outdoor signs! Bears investigating!

Re: Problems with glue chip

You may have answered your own question with "I made my own asphalt varnish". It sounds to me as if the your mixture is resulting in a film that has too high a shear strength (too much added varnish), and too little adhesion to the glass. In other words you should do a test of your mixture...

Re: UK brilliant cutting equipment

Hi Francis, If you search for photos of glass lathes on line, you will see many sizes and variations. Their design and size is directly based on the size and type of glass you plan to work on, whether it be flat glass or glassware. Really finely detailed glass cutting (sometimes termed as "copp...

Re: UK brilliant cutting equipment

Hi Anthony, Yes, you have the correct idea. The glass is generally ground by hand using a block of glass or brass metal and fine abrasive grains. In early days emery powder (also known as corundum powder or aluminum oxide) is mentioned in most books as the choice for adding the ground frosted finish...

Re: UK brilliant cutting equipment

I have found that the many years of soot and industrial air pollution that these panels attract is best removed by using naptha or white gas. These solvents are a finer distillate than paint thinner and lift the grime away. Other soap based cleaners don't seem to work as well and usually just redepo...

Re: Harley Davidson 1929 original pinstripes , any advice ?

I just checked and there are a few good photos of the maroon or reddish style '29 Harleys on Google. If you type in "1929 Harley Davidson" and then click on Google images there is a good amount of images. Some show mostly or only the tank as being striped along with the HD name, while some...

Well anyway, here are the words, at least until I can figure out why I can't get the photo to upload. Speaking of memories, I've been sorting out some old photos lately and though some here might like this one. Rick Glawson had called me to do a little wheel cutting on a piece he was making to grace...

Re: Cutting glass with scissors ?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5u7SCNVYTA There is no mystery to this. Just another urban glass myth, like that one about how glass is a super cooled liquid and continues to flow downward making glass window panes become thicker at the bottom edge. Want to buy a bridge? I'd love to sell you one, an...

Re: Skirting for ACID

From my experience the fumes in calm air are heavy and gravitate towards the ground. If you design an exhaust system, I would arrange the venting at table height and at floor level. Anything higher than that in a room space would bring the vapor to circulate at head level. If you have a normal sense...

Ha, the client even included some Maple leafs along with the broken glass. Looks like a good replication of the original.
How many tones were involved?
Did you use vinyl resist, or screen print?

As to whether it is aluminum or silver, try touching some ammonia to a sample of the suspect leaf and see if it tarnishes into black.

Hi Tim, I already did the toe splint thing last week. Went to Home depot and bought a 3/4" copper pipe union, machined and formed a nice little toe splint out of it. Wore it for a few days, but it wasn't helping which signaled some significant damage. That is why I got the X-Ray today , cause I...

Dave, I liked viewing the crafts shown in this film clip. I especially caught the details of the fella making the molded details for the ceiling trims. That is quite an art in itself, and you see it all over Europe. It's amazing how they leave a thin layer of the medium on the board to make the trim...

Hi Tony,
Glad to see you are busy in these sketchy times.
What did you paint that on. I see two little seam lines. Looks like some kind of board. Is this piece installed indoors or outdoors?

I agree with Larry. However "toughened glass" can mean glass that has been heat strengthened/toughened or chemically strengthened, NOT fully "tempered" as in the tempered glass that breaks into small grains. Toughened glass may take a bit more of an impact to break it, but it wil...
