Re: Gilding on Sand Blasted Foam

I agree with Kent, only after the priming is done I letter over the letters or areas to be gilded with lettering enamel, then the slow size. Jim's gold is good quality and his prices are great too.

Re: Asphaltum method

Thanks guys. I have 2 pieces I'm getting ready to chip. Not too much of the area needs chipped, but I'm going to try both methods without asphaltum. One with mask, one without. I'll see what suits me best. Thanks Rod for bringing this thread back.

Well, I guess I'll go on then.

Re: Asphaltum method

O.K., I'm seeing the light here. I'm going to have to find where that thread was explaining the spreading of all that glue evenly.... did you just spread the glue with a sqeegee or use a trowell? Seems like I remember a trowell. Asphaltum IS nasty to clean off.

Thanks!

Re: Asphaltum method

All that cutting around everything seems to me to be extra work, that could easily be avoided by the use of asphaltum. At least on smaller pieces. On larger pieces like Larry shows cutting can save on applying the asphaltum, but on a larger piece that has a lot of detail would'nt that mean more unne...

Vance,

Here's one place. I'll look through my bookmarks and see what I can find. I know I had another place that was cheaper but this is a good product, I've used it before.

Re: Paint mask for Gilding Jobs

Dave, Out of curiosity I once used liquid mask (spraylat). I was able to get it as thin as I wanted. I brushed it on with a flat. As it dries it gets even much thinner. I then hand cut my design and applied the paint. This was before computers. Back then this is how I did illuminated sign faces, so ...

Deep acid etch face up

After viewing Dave's "23" post I have a question or two. When doing a face up deep acid etch what would be the procedure? Is this correct: 1: Clean and mask with vinyl including sides and face 2: Level glass perfectly face up in tub 1/2" off the bottom of tub 3: Mix acid same as Dave'...
