Erik I'll refer you to your other post Art for arts sake! given the time put into such work the cost of the gold is minimal and if the work is for sale or a comission then just cost it in. most who do work here sell gold for what it is , the best you can get, so I wouldn't go looking for an alternat...

This is a nice cast metal sign on Cross St Manchester, Painted black and gilded although the centre panel is clear plastic it would have originally been slumped glass probably embossed or cut. the whole sign is on a curve, will try and get colour shot of it soon

There have been problems with the 12 hour and as from what I have heard they are testing a new one, which should be ready soon. I managed to get some of the old stuff to see me through but paid a high price for it

yes they are dual stripers, I commissioned 10 from Andrew Mack as door prizes at the Bull and brush meet in 2000, I have only one left, They appeared in one of the old catalogues from about 100 years ago, The kit might be yours ,who knows?

Just a bump on this , I will be taking the kit to the Dixie letterheads meet next week ,It is having a repaint ,l will post a couple of pics at the weekend, Sonny will be putting it up as a prize, So if your going you will be in with a chance of taking it home

Another tip on this, instead of thinning place the tin of size in a pan of boiling water for a couple of mins, the heat is enough to thin the size for spraying . This also works with varnishes and by not adding thinners you don't risk any loss of gloss. one from the old boys box of tricks

This one shows the drawers, I made these on the router out of 3/4 birch ply , in fact I made the entire kit on the router.
