I've been doing these types of events as well as craft shows for close to 35 years and they have produced very well for me. 3 years ago I designed a "POP" type display that sets up in minutes and I show, literally, at garden centers, fence companys and this winter at a feed and grain store...

Doug,

I have two questions...

1. Was this a shear test?

2. Did you use the PU glue full strength?

Just for clarification.

Doug, Thanks for the laugh!!! :) I'll check out the Elmers sooner than later. Getting the PU glue off my hands is a simple solution.....don't get any on them in the first place! :) I'll use shaped popsicle sticks to scrape away the glue when it's wet, if I have to. Catching the glue before it harden...

Eric,

The water becomes part of the glue and when it cures, there is no water in it to freeze and the joint itself is waterproof.

I'm certainly no expert but I think I remember that the loose is just a tad thicker than the patent. That might make a difference in the appearance????
I'm just guessing.

Thanks for the Elmers tip.....I'll pick some up and use it for the bigger holes. I use this Bondo for the pin holes and such.
The G glue is water soluable until it drys so if you want to watch over the job for a while, the excess can be removed with a wet rag or sponge.

Doug, I've been gluing up the HDU for a while. Urethane glue is the ticket, period. There can be issues tho. When used full strength and you need to remove any overage, it's tough to remove without tearing out some of the foam. Here's how i do it. First let's say it's 1" stock. I put a small be...

Doug,

That is weird. I switched to the Italian best after 2 pacs of the same german as you. The last pack of German and this first of the Italian problems galore.....might just as well use the loose. I hate this!!!!!

Thanks Danny,

This is the second pac......2 different brands. Same supplier. I guess it's time to switch.
The wax paper technique sounds workable but a real pain when I may need a couple of books at a time.
Thanks for the quick response.

Why is the gold on my patent leaf comming off the paper?

I switched to patent to save a litle gold and when it works, it works great. My last pack and this one has the leaf comming off the paper when I apply it. Any ideas? Can I fix it? I have tried putting a book under about a 25 lb weight in the hopes of "pressing" more firmly onto the paper.....

Good Deal!!!!! I'm looking foward to seeing more of your action shots. Are you using mallet and gouge to put in the stop cuts? The strong sidelight really adds clarity to the second shot. I've seen way too many pics of dimensional stuff with flat light (or should I say not seen?) Thanks for posting....

"Tips and Tricks" Pin Router

I don't see a CNC in my future, but I'm always looking to speed up production. I have 20 or more shapes that I use for my house markers. To speed up the cutting and smoothing of each, I used my last router and a knockoff "Work Mate" and fashioned a Pin Router. http://i178.photobucket.com/a...

Thanks everyone! Aaron, carving in pine is like carving in most woods. The basic techniques are the same. Each species have their own little differences. Aside from the color, (I need a white colored wood to use my staining techniques) pine, because it is relitivley soft, can be carved quickly. Most...

Setting the ground

The first step in relief carving is to remove the bulk of waste. This is done by first outlining the main elements of the design with a stop cut. This can be done many differt ways with different hand tools or a router. This router has a 1/8th inch, upcut bit 1/2" long. Because I like the backg...
