Post by Jimmy Goines »

Has anyone else used these grey quills ?
made in england, series 190b with black handles....
Are they still available in the US...?
or am I out of luck in replacing antiques?

Hi Jimmy,

I believe they are a thing of the past. I used to use get them in the late 80's. A supplier informed me they went out of business. A shame...they were a great quill!

percy baker quills

Thanks, Dave.....the were indeed some great quills....

I'm learning I probably got mine in early '80's since mine are marked with England on the handles. I've learned that the Baker family of brush makers moved from England to Israel in 1979....they still make many other type fine brushes, especially watercolor brushes....
The qrey squirrel lettering quills may still be made, and I hopefully have some info being mailed to me to determine if they are still available.

some fine folks at letterville gave this link:

www.rekab-brushes.co.il/catalogue.html

"rekab" is "baker" spelled backwards, their website from Ma'alot, Israel.
I think their story is quite interesting....check it out.

I'll post when I get more info......Jimmy
(and hopefully figure out how to post a working "link")
