Ghost town Letterhead meet...
Awhile back there was an announcement of someone organizing a Letterhead meet at an old ghost town in Arizona. I haven't heard any more about it, nor could I find the old post. Does anyone know anything about this event?

That would be me....
I have some plans in the works... date pending
I will be opening a shop here in AZ at the Goldfield Ghost Town
I'll be looking at having folks that want to make a project
for town and so on. It's been a little tricky up to now with mgmnt.
they have no clue what a group of sign makers can do to a town!
I'll fill you in as we get a firm date settled.

I'll give a little background on this thing.
Rawhide is the location in north Scottsdale that Mike mentioned.
I know a guy that use to make signs there as a merchant in town,
he had moved on may years ago and the town signs suffer greatly!
We originaly wanted to host a meet there... have a good time and replace
some of the ... ugly signs that are now taking over there and hopfully spark some interest in more authentic looking signs. That location was sold off to a local tribe and they have thier own plans involving relocating the whole town.
Goldfield Ghost Town is about 7 miles from where we live and once I met with the owner there he was very receptive to what we had in mind but concerned about keeping pace with the towns "theme" it is a real mining camp town of the late 1800's. I have been working for him on signs and antique restorations and will be moving in with a retail shop soon.
Planning around other Letterhead meets and events held there annually is one challenge... (every weekend they bring in some attraction like chilli cook off's and the like). Most recently they closed down to shoot an episode of "Biker Build Off".
I'd like to arrange for a "no fee" event and have all meals and accomodations supplied in exchange for "services rendered in kind".
I had originally asked for responses regarding a Feb. date

GEET,
It isn’t what are you missing but what did you miss.
Larry White just hosted the “first ever†Dead Man meet and those of us who attended are having a difficult time stepping out of that real world into this present illusion.
Larry did an incredible job of organizing it. If you know Larry, nothing is done half heartedly. The theme, décor, project and atmosphere were all wrapped around Jim Jarmusch’s cult-film, Dead Man, which was constantly running either in the background or in the one-liner conversations that were taking place among the participants. (In the midst of it all we were able to pull off angel gilding, depth carving, acid etching etc on our glass pieces)
The kicker was on Friday night when Tony Segale donned his apron and bonnet to be transformed into Sally, as he barbequed a slab of meat and mess of beans for all of us attending Philistines. I don’t care what anyone says, he makes a good pot of beans.
Sorry to break the mystique of this running conversation.
I’ll tell you one thing for sure . . . I wouldn’t trust no words written down in no email , especially from no Dickenson out in the town of Machine . . . your just as likely to find your own grave.
An appropriate segue into your Ghost Town letterhead meet . . .

Tonight, we are reminded of the good philanthropist,
Frederick Glawson,
who was a boon to all the letterheads.
(What's a boon?)
It's like when something really good happens.......
like when everyone gets to learn
and you can't do anything but absorb it...
like a timely blessing.
For the entertainment of his guests,
Rick would illuminate his whole studio
with pieces of framed glass
covered with gilded metals
hanging from various places, displayed
As a demo,
he would have the attendants watch
as he rubbed the glass
with aromatic acids and mica,
and finished with their own treatments,
then they'd hang these pieces
in their own shops
(P.S. thanks for the compliment, Dan,
but the credit for the beans goes to Karen White)

and he took that golden hair and made a sweater for baby bear.

Since I will be out there the last week in February for a wedding in Vegas, maybe you can schedule it around then sometime? I really want to go! I can leave the GF with my parents and hang out with sign folks. I was hoping to breeze out to John Studden's place while I was there too. John, if you're out there, is that a good time?

Geet, we went to Tucson where my Deb had a banking seminar, then drove to Phx by way of AJ, with a side trip out to the Flat. I lived in Phx back in the '80s and know my way around. From Phx we rented a Harley for three days and went through Bisbee and Tombstone - saw a lot of Scott's work (great stuff!). Then we returned tp Phx and tented a van and went camping up Utah way for another ten days. Great trip.
