A little snippet and a question...
From "The Modern Sign Writer"
Sutherland Publishing Company, LTD., Southport, Lancs, England.
Third Edition, 1954 (No info on date of first edition)

WHITE ACID: Hydroflouric acid neutralised by the addition of rock amonia. Small portions of rock amonia are added to the acid, which in the early stages, causes violent agitation. With further additions, this agitation gradually ceases. The acid is then ready for use. It's action on glass is to give a frosted appearance.

My question is; What is "rock amonia"? Not being chemistry literate, I have never heard of "rock amonia".
