Amazing what Dead Men can do! Bravo! Now all ya need to do is make that water tower functional, with an old shower head, so those Dead Men who bed down for their visit can enjoy a true cold shower! Heard some ramblings at the last (major) get together, about the only thing missing was a shower...

Will do, right after I finish the windmill and convert the lower portion of the crane into a bunkhouse, oh and then there's the Makah village to replicate.

Oh why was I born with a different face
Why was I not born like the rest of my race
When I look each one starts
When I speak I offend
Then I'm silent and passive and lose every friend
and he took that golden hair and made a sweater for baby bear.

Hey Sally, at the rate he's going, he'll have the whole town done by the time we get there. Looks like he's well on the way to getting that shower going, or maybe he'll find one of them bucket fed tubs to put out there. Nice job on the water tower, and wind pump! Don't see any tracks next to that water tower, but the servicing arm is a nice touch.

Looks like I had everything all figured out...except the part where the windmill doesn't tip over.

A slight malfunction took me up the ladder, then the whole thing tipped over, smashing the fan assembly. I road it down on the ladder, then bailed at the last second. Sprung a couple leaks, but I'm okay. ...Super SWM...

Mr. Blake,

Since attending the Boise workshop, I have attempted, in vain, to find a copy of Dead Man in the local rental stores. I now know why I can't find a copy; you have all of the available copies on your shelf. Horder!!

Send me $12, and I'll zip you off one. (PM me and I'll send you the address.)

You see, Jim Jarmusch took his independent film, Dead Man, to the Cannes film festival, where it received rave reviews. Miramax decided to pick it up, but asked Jim to shorten it a bit as the original approached 3 hours in length, in which he did. They then asked him to shorten it a bit more. That did not sit well with Jim, and he refused. Miramax copped a bit of an attitude about that, and subsequently slacked on the promotion of the film. That's why a lot of people have never heard of it, even though there's a dozen movie stars in it, and that's why it's also hard to find in the rental stores.

I feel we have a bit of an obligation to pick up where Miramax fell short. I buy 'em by the case, and most of the folks that come here to Machine get the nickel sales pitch. They also make great Christmas gifts... gives you something to watch on Christmas day.

Well well well.... looks like I found another reason to kick the ole Dead Man thread back up to the top...and it's your lucky day. It's the Dead Man Satire for your pleasure. (It's best viewed by clicking the "Slide Show" button, then pausing as need be to read the inner dialog.)

...most time, a man will tell you his bad intentions if you listen, let yourself hear...

...A few years back, a free-gildin' outfit come through. That weren't no idle story...

you tell a good story, harmonica....
there's only two things wrong with it..

one, only certain men read those satires...
that's William Blake's men...

two, William Blake's men know how to gild
and he took that golden hair and made a sweater for baby bear.

Ain't Letterheads Grand!

Post by Larry White »

Just a quick "Thank You!" to a few of my Letterhead friends that assisted me on this commemorative keepsake!

Thanks, Benmont Tench for the creation and sharing of some sweet vector art.
Thanks, Charlie Dickinson for the awesome airbrushed flame background.
Thanks, Conway Twill for sharing the technique of glue chipping up to the edge of depth carved sandblasting.
Thanks, Nobody for the inspiration.

Techniques involved were:

Depth carved letter outlines, frosted centers, then the centers were glue chipped.(Pat Mackle's process)
Etched Exaybachay image.
Outlines filled with metalic red paint.
Transparent orange shellac airbrushed fade over glue chipped centers.
Letter centers finished with super white mica powder, no back up.
Black drop shadow.
Framed it up. ....nice :D

...onto the next thing...

May our friend Larry White decorate this website with his golden light,
and purge it's darkest places from nut cases and vinylstines.

You keep this up, you'll be written up in all the history books.

When I was a kid, a bunch of us would design up some gold leaf signs.
Nothing fancy, something with some matte centers or glue chip,
maybe acid etched if we were lucky.
Gilded my first sign with Rick Glawson...
got a bunch of fancy supplies, and after I gilded a couple,
seemed I was designin' stuff anyway I could.
Weren't much better than those signs of Dickinson's.
The Dead Man meet was on.
I was more than happy to have you guys.
My first meet was just gilding with my friends.
We just all got together, and we gilded up the glass.
Musta started a hundred of them by now.
I went around and finished the rest that weren't done.
Those of us with the knack for gildin' seem to stay in touch,
helpin' each other and gettin' together.
Gildin's pretty simple. Make a beautiful sign whenever we can. With
the facilities here in Machine,
it wasn't long before we was making signs as big as a door.
Seems like this'll go on forever.
After all that, I'm still here in Machine.
Not a lot of call for a man with gildin' skills,
but I'll put 'em to work for men just like Dickinson.
Every once in awhile, I make it through a day without thinking of
my friends, who they are, and how I like them....

Miss you Dead Men.... AHO!

EASY, BLAKE, EASY...

the first a gilder needs to learn is take things easy!

I bet us Dead Men can teach you a few more things.
