Info wanted on Frost&Adams Co.

Post by Ray Smith »

Just bought a vintage artist's paint box on e-Bay and am trying to find out some info on the company.A friend found a site with one of their catalogs dated 1905 but there doesn't seem to be much info about it.Apparently the company was formed around 1843 and incorporated in 1895.
I have trouble posting pictures but there are a few on my Pinhead Lounge portfolio.Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Ray,
You might need to figure out how to post a photo to be of much help. Some of us have old catalogs, but not many of the big firms listed the manufacturer of their products. Sears-Roebuck sold all kinds of products for most trades and occupations besides the normal housewares and clothing. I am not familiar with the name, nor have much of a clue what a paintbox might look like. You might see if the photo is still on the ebay auction in the completed auction pages. If so, you can get the URL address of the image and paste it here.

Good luck,

Thanks Robare,
Looks like a bunch of Google searches might turn up some interesting links. There are probably a few museums with similar boxes. I'd bet the box was sold as an artist's kit, prefilled with paints, brushes, palette knives and so forth, vs just a box.

I'd spend some time looking in the reprinted old Sears, Wards, and Penny's catalogs from the turn of the century.

Good luck,
