"Brush Suggestions"
Hello, I'm new to the Hand Lettering Forum, I am beginning to do hand lettering and wonder if anyone could suggest a couple of good basic brushes to start out with and possibly where to purchase good lettering brushes. My father was an old school sign painter so I was influenced by him from a young age. I'm not sure how far I will go with this but I want to at least get started and practice. As I have been researching I was amazed at how much this art has disappeared and more amazed to find the Hand Lettering Forum and Letterhead website and the interest that's still alive. Thanks for your help.

Re: "Brush Suggestions"
When I first started, I could just pick them up at Neo Sign Supply in Oklahoma City. In other years, Quill Hair and Ferrule attended meetings and I picked them out of his supply. When we went to the Conclaves, I bought them from Rick Glawson. In recent years, Mac Brushes has been attending some of the meetings.

Depending on where you are, some of the big art supply stores still carry them, such as Meinegers in Denver.
I'd suggest getting a #4 and #6 gray quill and some black lettering enamel for beginning practice on painted surfaces.
If others have a favorite source, please feel free to add them to this thread.

Re: "Brush Suggestions"
Hi Will,
I always suggest people should practice on a piece of window type glass, then when you have finished for the day you can either wipe the glass clean or wait until the next morning and scrape it off with a blade and the glass is instantly ready for you to practice on again. Good luck mate, the more you practice then the easier it will become, practice, practice, practice and enjoy !!
kind regards, Brian.
