Paint for a theater curtain.

Post by Matthew Porosa »

Howdy all,

This is my first post in a while! I normally just phone dave! but i know theres a few poeple on here with experience of theater curtains!

We've got a job to paint a logo on the main theater down here's curtain which is the classic asbestos sheet so its thick!, its a big logo about 6m sq and im not sure wether we would use acrylic or oil based one shot on it.

Its gonna be base coated in white emulsion first, so its not gonna be soaking up the paint.

Obviously acrylic dries faster than oil but it needs to last and i need it to be vibrant, also ive got to match a few different colours as well.

Whadya reckon?

Matt.

We used to use pure pigments in water and hyde glue or Japan colors but I would use acrylics. Theatrical supply houses have Rosco paints which have bright pigments and dry flat which is preferred for lighting. Otherwise you will need to acquire artist's acrylics for the bright colors.

Hi Matt,
Try Nova Colour paint, if you can find a local supplier, they are water based and have a great range of vibrant colours and come in matt, semi gloss and gloss finish, they cover great and are colour fast colours !! You could try a google search to find a supplier ??
