October Gold Leaf Workshop, Boise, Idaho

Post by John McMahon »

Noel Weber is hosting a gold leaf workshop in October, and asked me to upload this pencil drawing. In reality, however, this file is neither a drawing nor in pencil. Discuss.

Okay, I'll bite.
If it's not in pencil and not a drawing, is it a diagram drawn in a computer program?
In my shop (Mystic Blue Signs, New Orleans) we only hand letter so I'm not very good at discerning computer-generated graphics that look like hand-lettered...
I'd like to know more about the workshop.

There we go....another great drawing from Noel B. I'm guessing this will be the class project? Good to hear you're well and still at Noel's John.

Nice Artwork! Is there an intentional play on words in the phrase, "Hard work Bares Fruit." If not, 'bares' should be 'bears'.

Apologies for being metaphysical (it's a scan), but I wasn't given anything else to go off. I should mention that shop monkeys bear no responsibility for misuse of homophones, although they may bare their teeth when riled. Alas, I have little information but endless speculation. For the real deal, give Noel a call!

I assumed that was a Linda Richman (Coffee Talk) impression.

Haha.

Artwork say Oct. 1, 2, & 3.

...which is Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Kinda funny...

Maybe it's October 2010.

Who knows? Maybe Nobody Knows. Dickinson might not even know.

This just might be some sort of secret conclave.

Or maybe they're trying to avoid inviting Blake, and Jenco.

Doesn't seem anyone's too anxious to supply much information.

Just send in your $500 dollars.

Hey Larry,
The October art was a pencil sketch scanned. Yes it was to soon post. I'm having lots of fun vectorizing the final line art. The correct dates are October 1st, 2nd, 3rd, two thousand nine. The cost of the workshop is $450. and as of friday is full.
I know you know what it takes to put a workshop together. You also know you are always welcome.

Well now I know! Thanks! ...and thanks for the standing invite.

Guess there's no real reason to give out all the particulars, when it's already full.

There's some smart people, jumpin' at chance like this. I should know, cuz I was there!

Good deal. Glad to hear you have a full house. I'll be back to Boarshank someday...

and probably without any warning.

Have a grand workshop!

I was at the Boise workshop...for about 90 seconds. Beautiful work was being done by all in attendance. The atmosphere was so intense that I had to leave. Fully focused artisans. I haven't been back there since the workshop so I don't know how the finished projects turned out. I've heard rumors about the scope of the next workshop but I best not mention anything until Mr. Weber makes it official.

There will be a special "Gold Leaf Masters Class" that will take place in 2010, actually on and around 10/10/10...This one will be a week long affair based on a pre-chipped & etched, bevelled glass that involves every technique we can think of.....The artwork is in it's early stages at the moment. This is an event that should not be missed by any serious Gilding enthusiasts, mark your calender, get ready to add your name to a very special event, more details & sketches will follow. This will be in Boise at Noel's workshop.....

Has anyone got a picture of a finished piece from the October workshop? I'd like to see.
I believe there is no shame in failure. Rather, the shame lies in the loss of all the things that might have been, but for the fear of failure.

John, I would love all information on this workshop. What do you class as a 'Master'? and can 'Wanna-Be's' attend? Any idea what the total cost of this workshop may be? I can't wait to see what the project may look like (but can I paint it pink...Ha Ha.) I look forward to learning all the details as they become available. Thanks in advance.
Cheers,

Just spoke to Noel, this workshop of advanced techniques will take place Ocober 5-10, .....10-10-10
The artwork is being refined right now, I may be able to post a rough early draft soon. This will be an elaborate piece reminiscent of Noel's SOT Gold Leaf cover art from several years ago. A solid weeks work in Boise wiil give you a project to be proud of & treasure for ever. The glass will be pre Acid Etched & Glue Chipped ready for attendees to Gild the first day, the emphasis then will all be on decorative techniques, a specially made frame will be supplied, along with packaging for travel purposes.

There will also be a project to blast & chip, to go over the process.......We will post a link on Tuesday with more details......

A fun week, in a great location..............Hope to see some of you there.

be very careful of the link to those pics...

when you scroll through them backwards, you see the real story!

Mr. Dickinson pulling half sheets of gold perfectly away from the glass!
