With my web site I accept credit cards through pay pal. Yesterday a US Navy order came through and they can't go through Pay pal.
If any of you accept CCs for payment I'd like to hear how you do it.
Thank you
Roderick

Just get the cc # over the phone with the expiration date, security #, and the name on the card. Then key the info into your terminal as it prompts you. Next time you phone order something with your cc, take note of how they ask for each piece of info and what their general manner is. It's pretty easy.

Hi Rod,
Get the card #, owner's name as it appears on the card, expiration date, 3 digit security code on the back, AND get the owner's zip code (also used in security)
Don't forget to batch out!
Or, offer to do a trade. You're near the ocean. A battleship with a surf board rack would be way cool!

Re: Do you accept credit cards !
There are so many credit card companies out there wanting to get
on with you. Currently my company charges 1.59% but after you
get the statement if you can figure out how they charge only the
1.59% you will be one up on me.
My present company gave me a swiper (3 year commitment).
Check with your local bank though because previous to this I just
punched it in on my phone keys. This way does cost more also.
CC companies charge less for a transaction if the card is present
and you can swipe it. A higher rate if you have to punch in the numbers.
More risky I guess.
Although credit cards cost I think this is a smart way to go. Once you
have the number, and you have checked their number to see if it is
good, you have a great deal of security. I put in my proposals
"credit card number to hold" as a secuity deposit. You may pay
that monthly charge but getting your money has a nice ring to it.
All in all I think businesses expect you are doing credit cards.
I only go Visa/ MC. American Express too expensive. Don't really
even get many calls for AmEx anyway.
--batch out; your terminal (swiper) collects your transactions for the
day adds them up and sends them to your CC company. Your money
should show up in your account in a couple days.

Re: Do you accept credit cards !
Hi Rod,
When you use a terminal for transactions, at the end of the day you "batch out" which adds up your sales and confirms them with your credit service.
Your machine will print out a tape of the days sales.
I had to buy my card machine as part of the service. Sometimes you can buy a used machine from someone who is buying a newer one, or as I found mine
from someone going out of business.
PS: I just read mark's note and what he said is true- it's kind of like a "racket". I challenge anyone to do to figure out their "math" AND if a card offers "REWARDS" to the holder be alerted that YOU are paying for that as well!!

Re: Do you accept credit cards !
We've accepted Visa/Mastercard for around 20 years and PayPal for around 5 years. When all the dust settles, the rates end up almost identical. Personally, I'd rather pay someone using PalPal because it shields them from my credit card numbers.
We bought a card swiper through our bank and have used it all these years. Newer ones have small printers, but we only have the card swiper version.
Good luck,
M. Jackson
