Paua Brocade glass sign

Post by Roderick Treece »

This is a glass sign for a friend that has a surf shop in Orange County. I started with black outlines , Painted the dark maroon background in and now I'am laying in the Paua Brocade. I'll let that dry awhile then give it one more coat of brocade then it go's into a frame.

I left the sign out in the sun to dry all day then went to my framer and picked up the frame. Here it is finished and ready to deliver tomorrow.
The size is 15 x 36

I like the flow of your lettering, Roderick.
Is Paua Brocade same as mother of pearl? What do you use for size?

David,
I didn't design it but I do agree it does have a nice flow. Paua brocade is crushed up abalone thats left over from making the sheets. I glue it down with frog juice. Just be careful because the Frog Juice is pretty hot stuff. Sometimes it will curl the One shot.

OH MY..... Roderick, you just made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I have not seen or heard that name in over 20 years, Bruce Jones!! Mr Jones made my first ever custom windsurfer a long time ago. I supplied the specs and the graphics and they turned my vision into my most favorite board ever. If I remember correctly that was the same signature on the board....such a small world!!

Roderick, so you paint the black outline(glass gilders backup from Letterhead supply?) and then maroon 1shot(hardner?) and then frogjuice...what method? i have never used the Juice

but i've had a little baggie of the abalone chips for quite awhile, never knew how to deal with it, it was just so pretty, had to get it!

thanks

John,
Paint the black outlines using a mask and one shot w/ hardner. Or paint em by hand with one shot. I wouldn't use backup paint unless I was.......Backing up.
Paint the marron background w/ one shot
paint the frog juice on in the clear windows. You could use any thick clear to do this. Once you have the clear painted just sprinkle the flacks on. if it needs another coat wait till it's dry and do it again.

Frog is a hot clear so you might get some lifting. I've also used clear epoxy to do this.
