gold & glass monument

Post by Tony Segale »

If the risks are little, the rewards are little....

Here's a little sign finished and installed.
Thanks to Mr. White, ordering me up the right glass

Thanks to that Baronian guy, fabricating a well built structure per my simple specs,
quite a builder that fella is....

23K brite line, 18k matte centers, 23k smaller text, reverse 1/4"glass, with a double lami piece of glass in front
black smalts on the inside of the cabinet
entire structure painted with BennyMoore exterior latex
bottom text panel letter with latex and finished with Golden Irridescent Bright Gold paint
beveled glass in pillars, reverse paint and backlit with LEDs

Excellent!
I believe there is no shame in failure. Rather, the shame lies in the loss of all the things that might have been, but for the fear of failure.

Fine, pefectly fine.

That's smart of you, spreadin' out the work to others like that...

Hey Jenco, think about it, a portfolio, displayed all over town....well, that's Lodi.

This sign is a real beauty Tony, and don't forget Danny Baronian's
great fabricating job too.
Say Danny, how did you do the curved arch piece over the sign?
I'm guessing a Signfoam situation.

Beautifully executed. Reminds me of an outdoor job done for a bank in the 60's. Only lasted a year due to freeze and thaw climate. Has this work allowed for moisture build-up and possible accumulation of moisture due to temp changes? This is a great concept but may be limited to areas that don't experience severe weather changes. Nevertheless it remains beautiful and an inspiration for those of us who follow this site and appreciate the visionaries amongst us. Bob.

Mr. T.S.,

That's one fine looking sign there! Did you have any problems with the sign permit?

Love it Tony, I to was wondering about the moisture issue, is that a sealed frame the glass is set in? In any case, it is well suited to the building, love the way you mimicked the entrance including the steps. On the bevel glass, I'm assuming you use a transparent paint colour and back it up with transparent white (like the way we used to do backlit faces). Tony Shes a beaut...Pat.

Gettin back to the beginning of my story....

the shape, Joe, was based of the building entry, of course.

the material, Mark, was entirely PVC, except for the glass,
helps to have a fellow letterhead in the biz with a computer router and
a background in furniture and cabinet making, Danny Baronian,
he's one fine builder

we discussed holes for moisture buildup... Dan did an excellent job of allowing holes at the bottom of the cabinet, with fine mesh screens to keep the intruders out
he also built a small box on the inside of each pillar which contains a moisture absorbing material

Pat, the colors in the glass were thinned transparent screen inks and backup silver (white), drizzled onto the glass, all together, which was pre-flowed with mineral spirits,
allowed to flow together, with a little assistance by rotating the glass, then kept level overnight

and, Ron, no problem with the permits, like Larry says, I'm the mayor and they do like I tell 'em!
and he took that golden hair and made a sweater for baby bear.
