Hi, I'm Romain, from south France. I'm a graphic designer, specialised in font designing, and i've been asked to paint sign on a bar/restaurant, but dirctly on the wall.
I usually paint on wood, so i was wondering if i should use one shot enamel to do so, or if i could use something else.
They also asked for a used look, does anobody has a trick for this? (maybe a little sanding?)
Thanks for your answers!
Romain

Re: On wall
Romain,
I'd stay away from one shot and use latex paint.
As far as ideas of how to, check out Rick Janzen's site, there's a tutorial on several of his aged signs. http://www.streamlinestudiosinc.ca/index.html
He used to have a tutorial on his aged signs, which I can't find at this moment. If I find it, I'll post it here.
Another site for ideas is http://www.nutmeggerworkshop.com for aged signs. Very nice work.
I'd also suggest you find a wall in your shop, and paint on the wall, sand the text / background, use crackle finish, thin some paint with clear tinting media, and get the feel for the sign you need to do. Besides giving you an idea on how to proceed, with a sample you could provide the client with an example of what you propose to provide.

Re: On wall
Hi all, here's a link to the "Step by Step" on painting aged signs on brick from my blog, also another sign done on Cinder block. Hope this helps.

http://streamlinestudios.blogspot.ca/20 ... -sign.html.
I'll probably being doing a more in depth one on techniques I use when doing signs for movies.

Don't worry, it's only paint.

Re: On wall
Thanks a lot forall those very usefull informations!
Should i use outdoor latexpaint? it's seems that there's not too much color available here. Is latex paint the same thing as the acrylic paint (we don't have any paint called "latex" paint here)
I'll try to post pictures when it will be done.

Acrylic house paint is fine.
