Sign Painters in MD/DC/VA?

Post by Chris Yoon »

Hello all,
I'm a designer and illustrator that works a good bit with lettering (particularly chalk lettering so far). I've gotten very interested in sign painting and would love to get some hands on experience with a professional sign painter. Does anyone know of any sign painters in the Maryland, Washington D.C., or Virginia area?

Here's some of my previous chalk lettering work if anyone is interested in taking a look:

Thanks!

This is great!
I've been doing some chalkboards around town, but they are all rather small.
Wish somebody around here had a big wall for me to use...

I have a thread with some of the stuff I did in the past months, regrettably things are slowing down and people are
dropping the chalk signage... again...

Glad to see your work.
Best of luck in all endeavours,

Julio Cesar.

(edit) P.S.: In one of the photos there is a brush lying on top of the board, what do you use it for?
I've started calligraphy as a hobby a couple of years ago and, from there, stumbled upon
the wonderful world of lost arts - pinstriping, chalkboard art, hand-lettering and sign making.

From Brazil.

Thanks Vance & Julio.
Julio: The brush was something I was experimenting with to clean up tight spots but I no longer use that anymore (just a rag, or a rag with a pencil underneath if I need to clean tight areas)

Excellent work, Chris.
Don't know your background but you obviously have a good sensibility about sign layout & lettering. Hope you'll continue to delve deeper into the craft.
Right offhand, I'm not sure who to recommend for the DC area, but I'm confident someone else can direct you.

I have long noticed that my local Trader Joe's market uses constantly updated chalk signs to advertise "specials" throughout their store. They are done in colored chalk.
They are clever and eye catching. I find myself stopping to give them a closer look. Funny, but I seem to recall the chalk art, over the product it is advertizing.
