New to sign painting

Post by Cam Diamond »

Hi Guys,

I have finally made time in my life to try signwriting which has been a life long dream.

Most of my current spare time consists of painting in watercolour and ink where I mix typography and tattoo flash.

One of my latest pieces for a clothing label

Recently I found Mike at Flair for Signs who has started teaching the art of sign painting to the public.

I have had one class and 2 weeks of homework and I am hooked!
Moving onto curves next class, currently just working with vertical, horizontal and angled lines.

Would love some feedback on my practice sheets :)

First class with Mike

Those sheets are very good. You'll be moving on to those curves next then Drawing out your Egyptian alphabet.
You are doing it the right way.

Hi Cam. I think you are doing a great job of controlling the brush with this, I remember this type of training when I was 15 working with some old sign writers.
lots of lines ,circles and then onto letters. Keep this going, its great work!

Thanks Dave.

Your work is a huge inspiration to me, the amount of detail you can put in one piece is mind blowing.

Has been a few weeks since my last update so I thought I would show where I have got to.

Started with lettering, which was pretty exciting!

Here is my first attempt at the casual style.

Will get some more photos by the end of the week once I have tried my other practice homework task.

Cheers,
