Alf Becker alphabets

Post by Terry Colley »

Got my hands on a xerox copy of the Alf Becker alphabets from the Signs of the times, 320 done over 27 years , most of it is in usable condition but I was missing 2 pages alphabets no 312 and 316 William Pickett has passed on his scan but they are almost unreadable. Has anyone got a reasonable copy of these before I do hours of photoshop work?
thanks Terry

Hi Terry,
I have a copy of "100 Alphabets" by Alf R Becker - it might have the ones you are looking for. Do you know the names of the alphabets?

PS: I didn't know that anyone had compiled the total 320 alphabets. Who? When? Where?

Terry - the book has nothing called "Modern Bold". Can you make out if it is a Roman or sans-serif? He has some "Moderns" and some "bolds" in both sections.

Here is "Modern Script" - see if it looks right. I couldn't stop and also include "Modified Modern Script" - what a snazzy page layout.

Lee, that looks like a fantastic book!
Terry, I think these are the scans you're looking for but mine are probably just as bad as yours.
I got mine from Joe Broxterman and they're likely part of the same collection of copies from ST.

Would somebody please furnish the ISBN number of "100 Alphabets by Alf R Becker". I will then try and find it
on Abe Books. I tried just using the title and author and there was "No Joy" in the response.

Thank You Kindly,

Dale

Hi Dale, I think you might struggle to find a copy , as I am aware ST only printed 3000
copies , although it sold out they did not re print, a few lucky people have it but most have a xerox copy. The copy I have is the 320 alphabets taken from ST each month from 1932 to 1957
