In Memoriam - Starr Bright

If memory serves me right, I first met Starr on the Letterville Forum back in 2004. Or it might have been this Forum.

Whatever forum it was, she introduced herself as a person that had once worked at Western Sand Blast in Chicago, Illinois back in the 80's. She had worked there from 1975 until 1988.

She enjoyed the artistic glass business and the people with whom she worked and shared her artistic glass passion with.

She always found time to visit a couple of times a year, so this past year when I did not hear from her, I began to wonder what was going on and if I would see her again.

I made several attempts at emails and calls to her cell phone.

With no replies I decided to call her current place of employment, the artistic glass company, Blasart.

Which now as it turns out was closed, due in part to the death of it's owner from ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.

Another Chicago area artistic glass company then purchased Blasart.

It was through this most recent owner of Blasart that I discovered my dear friend had pasted away, a victim of lung cancer.

She was a kind person and enjoyed doing the research that we did together on Western Sand Blast.

I miss her dearly.

I never met her but had heard of her. I'm so sorry you lost a friend like this.

This is sad. Sorry I never got to talk to her. Did she have anything on line of her work? A web page? She was lucky to have had some time with notable glass decorating companies. I would liked to have asked her some questions about glue chipping, stenciling methods, and the like and see how much original info was bantered about and trickled down. Might have filled in some gaps.
