Welcome F,
Not many books written glass gilding but the classic one is Gold Leaf Techniques by Raymond J. Leblanc. Looking forward to see the photos of your Grandfather's shop and tools.
You can alway come to a workshop anytime.

As for design... I'd pick up the book.

Mastering Layout: Mike Stevens on the Art of Eye Appeal

Will give you a good foundation as to what makes a good sign.

Hmmm OP vanished... oh well still good info.
Sure I paint thing for my amusement and then offer them for sale. A brushslinger could whither en die from lack of creativity in this plastic town my horse threw a shoe in. :shock:
