Need help finding photos

Post by James russell kelly »

Hello all, i'm looking for help to find images of vintage building signs- specifically metal framed with wire mesh background, and dimensional gilded, or painted letters. These were quite common from the late 20's to 40's often on factory buildings such as carpet, & and furniture manufacturers.
Im trying to convince local township to allow proposal on historic old building. I'll try and attach some relevant images (ok, so im new at this)
These pics are my signs, just to show type im after.
Many thanks, Russell

Hi Russel,

these may help:

copper frame: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2734&p=13214&hilit= ... gue#p13214

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=759&p=2298&hilit=sp ... ogue#p2298

Spanger catalogs, I don't know the catalog designation, but they sold the frame, mesh, letters, and illustrations of each assembled. I'll see if any of mine contain that style.

While they don't cover the criteria you're after, click on The Letterheads tab, lower right corner of The Hand Lettering Forum, which contain photos, supplies and sources.
