Kent SmithNext month my wife, Diana and I are making our first trip to Europe. Our son, Justin is a U.S. Navy deep sea diver there. When he found out we were coming for a visit he said his superiors all have Harleys and could I stripe them.
So now for the question. How do I get some paint there? I know I can't ship it and I know I can't take it on the plane. Of course brushes and a small version of my kit are no problem.
We are there for nearly 3 weeks so I plan on taking photos of local sign work and meet a Sicillian Signwriter. The city is Catania(pop. 300,000). Any suggestions, as always, are appriciated.
Thanks
John
Rick SacksStarcolor, a sign supply distributor based in Paris has many locations around Europe and they carry 1-shot. There are European Equivalants as well and most art stores will have the basics. You should be able to find a sign supplier via internet search for the major cities. Don't know about Sicily but a ferry ride to a major city might be worth the trip too.
Danny BusselleTimes might have changed now, but I remember a friend going to England years back and being asked to do a sign there. He went to purchase some brushes and color and the sign supply store would not sell to him because he didn't posess some credential. It might have been a certificate of employment or something from a training school.
I heard this story several times from folks back then, that some type of guild association was needed.
I think it was Sam Adamov that had this experience and had recently befriended a signwriter there that got the stuff for him. That friendship developed and led to a Brit we know as John Studden coming over here.
John in the Day that I was Flying Around I Used Glass Vials. And so Did BDFG Thats where I got the Vials 3oz of paint in each vial. if you only take a few in your kit it will work. If you want to try it I will send you 6 Bottles for paint and 2 for thinner and catalist.
