Creativity is allowing ones self to make mistakes. Talent is knowing which ones to keep.

Re: fine art and gold leaf
thanks for all your compliments.
Here's the secret details...
First, I decided a while back, it takes too much room that I don't have, and too much time to build a sandblast booth, chip booth, etc.
Especially when one has a friend that lives close enough for my gimpy little projects, one Mr. Larry White.
All a man has to do is lay down his files, purchase his mask and glass, supply your own glue and treat Mr White to a Satomi Signature Set,
swear allegiance to the Town of Machine and its westerns, and you can take up your horse and ride home....
the glass was blasted and chipped by Mr White, sent back to be tempered, and I came back for another round of sushi and westerns...
sounds like a lot of work, doesn't it?
The design was a pencil sketch approved as the clients logo, digitized and assigned PMS colors.
So, all the guess work for chip, gold and paint areas was resolved before the glass was ordered.
From there, basic gilding steps, water gild 23K, back up, oil gild 18K and 12K matte centers, copper leaf sea shells
with rouge gold in the center bottom shell area.
No squeegies were damaged during production, all paint, back up and line work was completed with
Wrights of Lymm Sable series 1315, sizes 0 - 10, and my left hand.
Due to the diminishing supply of my Japan tube colors, and my over abundance of one-shot,
that is what you see in the glass. Except for the mermaid, rocks and oval shape ornaments on the side.
There, I used transparent screen inks. After the colors dried, the mermaid was gilded behind with 12K, the rocks
with blue variegated, and the oval ornaments with copper. The stars are aluminum leaf, the moon 18K.

Re: fine art and gold leaf
thanks again, boys.
I don't understand who you mean when you say Mr. Segale.
That's not me, its either Tony, Sal, or Sally, sometimes Seegar.
I forgot, the clipper ship was also painted with transparent screen inks, and the sails backed with 12K,
the hull backed with copper.
I did take step by step photos of the entire project.
Sometime soon, I hope to upload those. I can't take any macros at this time.
It was delivered yesterday, she liked it so much, she gave me a great big hug.
Kinda gets ya, doesn't it?

Nicely written story to go with that nice piece there, Sally
Lot more work than meets the eye.
