Whats keeping me busy

Post by Doug Bernhardt »

Just a couple photos from this years complicated project. This is just a small portion as altogether it's is about 100' but it was also the most involved (and coolest) of the job. Still waiting on final install which is in progress this week.

Thanx guys...It was a huge project altogether and the last of it will be installed tomorrow and will go well hopefully. Whenever I get into a project like this with so many pieces (parts) that need to have exact measurements I do a panic until all is complete.

I was down there today as the crew was working and it was something to watch. They were levelling the stone and attaching brackets. Here's a few more.

I'm a bit of a fussy old bugger and want to make all the elements myself rather than order them and use existing parts. I suppose that way I get to make it in the way it fits best.

I guess I'm trying to work out the "did I ever get another dog" question. For many years I did have a shop dog that I actually got as a "training devise" for my son, who my wife thought I loved more than her! She was there the day I carved my first sign but missed a few of the last ones. Here's an element in progress from the centre sections.

Hi Anthony. These are all part of an Irish Pub called Heart and Crown in downtown Ottawa. I did the original signs some 20years ago and they needed updating. I'll post a few more photos next week when the install is complete. There's actually quite a bit more to do with some columns and millwork which I also enjoy. It makes it look complete.

Here's just the front. It will look a whole lot better when I get all the columns replaced.....coming a little later and some lighting for everything.

Hi Tracy,
Welcome to the forum!
I would recommend that you start a new topic with your post since your YouTube video doesn't really tie in with this particular thread and Doug is planning to check back with updated photos at some point. It keeps things cleaner, as far as the forum being useful, if we don't go off on tangents. Also, your video won't get burried in an unrelated topic but will have its own title and topic - as you choose to name it.

If you go to the main page, in the upper left just above all the posting you'll see a button called "NEW TOPIC". Click on that to begin a new thread.

Pretty Face?? Now thats a scary thought ;=) Jim...I'm a big fan of the Cetol (sikkens) system. Just stain to colour of choice and finish with overcoats. I've found that a refresh of the overcoat (door and Window it's now called) every couple years is easy to maintain and keeps looking good. There are some of the new acrylics that I'm experimenting with but is a little to early to tell yet. The benefit to Sikkens is the ease of maintenance and at least I've found reliable results.

Thanx for the kind words...High praise from a high place. Your contributions (your work and articles about others...like the Pritchard's) in SC for all those years were one of the things that kept me wanting to try new things. In the early 70's all I was interested in doing were sho-cards but that's a whole other story.
